Honeymoon

My Fiancée and I know we want to go to Italy for our honeymoon but can't decide if a cruise, self tour or guided group tour is the way to go.  Neither of us speaks fluent Italian nor has ever been to Italy before.  Has anyone been or know a good deal on a trip?

Try Gate1 travel for multi city tours, they are amazing. I did a tour of Italy for 2 weeks in 2008 and it was wonderful. For our honeymoon we are doing a Mediterranean cruise that has several Italy stops. If I hadn't already been there though, I wouldn't have picked the cruise because there are so many fabulous things to see in each city that one or two days on a cruise would not be nearly enough.

My friends just returned from a 2.5 week trip around Italy, and they planned the whole thing themselves. I don't know the details but they went to like 8 different cities, stayed in many different hotels and rented a car. Apparently it was pretty easy to do. Also, neither of them speak any Italian but they said it wasn't a problem at all. Everyone there spoke English mostly.

I wouldn't want to do a group tour for my HM. We stayed at a resort in Mexico and there were a lot of people our age there, but I didn't want to talk to anyone except FI. I just wanted to be alone and be in our own little "HM cocoon" so I think I group tour would be terrible. Just my opinion though! I think Italy is a great choice!

I agree with BmoreMegan - my husband and I took a trip to Italy and did not go with a tour or anything. We went to Rome, Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii. If you need any recommendations for places to stay, etc. let me know,

I highly recommend the Rick Steve's books (I got them from the library) because he gives estimated times it takes to go through a site. The public transportation was easy to use, most people spoke english and we ended up walking around everywhere.

    Good luck!
