speaking of coffee addiction....has anyone ever whitened their teeth professionally??

i REALLY want to whiten my teeth prior to the big day! i don't just mean use a whitening toothpaste or a whitening mouth wash...i want them to get super white!

has anyone had any success with teeth whitening kits? has anyone gotten their teeth professionally whitened?

if anyone is planning to whiten their teeth prior to the big day, when are you planning to do it? a month before? a few weeks before?

i don't know what the best timing would be - but i am a coffee drinker and i love a nice glass of red wine sometimes, so my teeth are definitely not the brightest!

Re: speaking of coffee addiction....has anyone ever whitened their teeth professionally??

  • I've done the crest strips and my teeth were so senstive for about 2 months and I hated it!!! I think my teeth are already white so I'm not going to do this again.

My FI is going to get his teeth whiten professionaly before the wedding. When he was a baby he was struck with meningitis and almost died (fever of 107*). So it caused some damage to his enamel on his front teeth (apparently it still affects his current teeth even before he had any teeth). His dentist is going to do it for him as a gift. I will be sure to let you know how it goes for him!

  • I'm in the same boat. Love coffee and red wine - yikes! I use the express crest white stips (you wear them for like 2 hrs one evening every three months). They definitely help, but it's not 'movie star white', by any means.

I think I'm going to *attempt* to avoid coffee and red wine the last month before the wedding. We'll see how that goes...

  • I just use whitening tooth paste.

Professional whitening can cause increased sensitivity and I don't want to take that chance.

I've used the whitening kits before. It was the 14 day one from Crest. I had to stop using it after 6 days. Tthey were hurting my gums and making my teeth really sensitive. But even with just those 6 days I could see a difference.  I might do it anyways for the wedding.

I asked my dentist about this and he said that the whitestrips are just like getting them professionally whitened but without the added cost and it takes time also. I am probably going to get the white strips and do it. He did say what everyone else is saying about the sensitivity when you use the strips. He recommended the 3D crestwhite strips. I will let you know how it goes.

I am also getting my teeth polished for the wedding 2 days before.

  • This is actually really funny that you posted this today! I went to my dentist last Friday and got whitening trays, but I haven't used them yet. I'm afraid they are going to make my teeth really sensitive!  The good thing about the trays is apparently you can kind of regulate when you use them and can wait between days of using them, if they are hurting your teeth.

BTW, I love my dentist. He gave the trays to me for free because I need to have some repair work done on my chipped front tooth which is probably going to cost a bunch of money, and he said that if I was going to whiten my teeth before the wedding, they need to wait until after I whiten my teeth to do the repairs. Since I wasn't ready to pay for the whitening yet, he just threw it in for free. AND he plays 80s hair band music in his office.

I swear by crest white strips.  I used them for the first time in high school and it was almost comical to see the difference in my teeth color between my school pictures from sophomore to junior year.

They do make your teeth sensitive, but I thought it was tolerable.  Buy Sensodyne to brush your teeth with.  Also, get the ones that stick to your teeth really well (the ones you can drink water with while wearing them)...otherwise if you sneeze, they'll move or come off. :/

I just bought the crest white strips (7 day pack) from the store yesterday. The directions said I had to use them for 30 minutes each day. I'll let you know my results. I'm also drinking my red wine with a straw (at home of course) during this week to see if that helps.

  • I've had my teeth professionally whitened and I've used the 3d crest whitestrips. Honestly, professionaly whitening your teeth could cost upward of $500 and the whitestrips give you the same result IMO. There are different levels of the crest whitestrips, though, and I def. saw better results with the professional level ones. You can use them every 6 months, so I actually just finished using them last week and am going to use them again in July before the wedding. You really do start noticing a difference after the first few days..so it's def. worth it. I've been using them for four years now and I haven't experienced any sensitivity with them.

  • I also love coffee and I thought about whiting my teeth but I was going to give myself a test run on the strips and see how they work and if I like the results then I was going to do it again in June so I will have time before the big day.
  • I swear by the 3D Crest Whitestrips!

Also, there are sometimes $7 off coupons floating around for these, so check your newspapers for those P&G coupon flyers

If you do it now, you shouldn't need to whiten again by June.  Also, it's not healthy for your teeth to do it that often.  The 2 week form of Crest whitestrips can be done every 6 months.  Some of the new ones should be done once a year or every year and a half

btw, costco sells different varieties (I think either the 3D or advanced), and they often come with a full size toothpaste and 5 min strips for maintenence whitening between the 6months/year.  I've seen coupons for them several times, too, in the costco coupon packs for like $10 off

  • I've used Aquafresh's whitening kit that was for 7 days after the 4th day my teeth were a bit sensitive  so I took a break for a few days and then finished the kit, noticed a big difference. Then recently I used a Rembrandt's 2 hour whitening kit and that worked awesome too. Although I didn't want my teeth to get sensitive so I did it for 4 half hour increments seperated by a day or 2. People commented a lot more about how white my teeth are with the Rembrandt one though and I bought it on clearence for only $20 at Wal-Mart. Normally I do my whitening while showering and getting ready for the day so I don't notice the trays in my mouth as much.

  • I actually was just at the dentist last week as well and purchased the whitening trays from my dentist.  I was really nervous about it making my teeth sensitive and my dentist said this shouldnt be an issue at all. I havnt started the treatment yet but I will keep you posted how it goes!
