Help me make this decision:

I ordered paper to make the menus and the programs after visiting OfficeMax and looking at different paper. It came in last night, and it is just too flimsy (I have no idea if the OfficeMax paper was mis-labeled or what). So now, here is my dilemma. This paper will work fine for the programs, because I'm going to fold them over to make a fan (see this clicky). Should I buy new paper for the menus or should I cut them down and put them on some type of card stock? I cannot decide. One is a pain in the a$$, both are extra money. Which would look better? Menus below for reference.

Re: Help me make this decision:

  • When you say flimsy... like copier paper flimsy?  and how big are you wanting the final product to be?
  • A little heavier than copy paper. It's 80# (copy paper is 24#). FI said it was too flimsy but that if we had to, it would be fine.

They are about the size of half a sheet of regular paper. So I could trim down the edges (or OfficeMax would) and then use a half sheet of navy card stock as the backing.

The menus will be sitting on the plates when people arrive at the table.

  • I think cutting it down may make it feel less flimsy... have you tried cutting one in half and seeing how it feels then?  If you still don't like it, I think the navy backing would be really pretty.
  • I think doing the navy backing would look best. If you don't have time, though, I'm sure purchasing a heaveir paper would be fine.

  • What's the price difference in cutting them down and backing them on cardstock versus getting them re-printed on thicker paper?

<div>I highly recommend using glue dots to assemble them!  I used them to assemble my pocketfold invites and they were amazing and very easy and quick to use!</div>

I second the glue dots. I suggest you buy several refills too. I used them for my save the dates and rehearsal dinner invites :)

</div><div>i agree with this. just that pop of navy blue will add soo much to them!!! and then that way all that paper you did buy doesnt go to waste any more then it has to.</div><div>
</div><div>and glue dots work great for projects like this!!!</div>

  • If you have the time and patience, I'd add the navy blue cardstock for backing and still use the paper for the menus. I love the look of layered/backing menus. :) If not, then using it for programs and buying thicker paper for the menus will work just as well.
