Rec your wine!

Hiya ladies!  I KNOW you can help me!  I'm trying to find different kinds of wine.  The only wine I have liked so far are sparkling wines that are very very sweet.

So with that information in mind, what can you rec me?  Semi-Sweet whites or reds?  Doesn't have to be cheap but not too expensive.

Just went on meds for strep and now I'm itchin' for a drink.

Re: Rec your wine!

  • Are you in the burbs?  You should go do a tasting at Lynfred and try a bunch of different ones.  They've got some good stuff.

  • MD 20/20.

No, really. Do you know if you can get Huber's wine in your area? I drink mostly local wine and they have a really good semi-sweet red.

  • I <3 Hubers!

If you like sweet, try Mirassou Riesling.

  • Hubers is very good! I was going to suggest their Sweet Marcela. I'm NOT a big wine drinker, but I think Oliver is a good, inexpensive wine. Tongue out

  • Riesling would be your best bet if you like sweet wines.

Chateu Ste. Michelle is good and cheap, and i like the New Age brand white wine, too.

Relax riesling is pretty good, too.

  • My favorite is Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc! Inexpensive but really nice and pretty universally appealing
  • Poli and Fish-I wrote on the post about your GTG but I was at the MOA this weekend and couldn't believe how amazing your roads are up there.  Ours are junk with tons of potholes.  And even with the construction, your drivers can seem to avoid a whole bunch of traffic.  Amazing!

  • We ARE pretty amazing up here. But I still hate driving in Minneapolis. HATE IT.

But it's WAY better than driving in Chicago. That's just for insane people. What were you doing in MSP?

  • Just visiting the MOA.  7 hour drive....not as "exciting" as everybody talked it up to be.

  • I would rather die than go the MOA. :)

But downtown MSP is the bees knees, so is Uptown. Love it there.

Funny thing is, that WE complain about our roads up here all the time. But I suppose it's all relative, huh?! :)

  • Oh, I've spent some time in Chi Town! I like to visit there. Good city.

And I know, right? The no sales tax is the shiit.

  • I love sweet sweet wine. Some of my favs are

Moscato- Sutter Home $9.99 for the big bottle

White Zinfandel- Barefoot is maybe $8

Icewine- It is like honey, yum!- a little pricier

  • I'm pretty sure Eiswein is a dessert wine. It's almost like syrup, but with the right dessert it isn't bad, but no way could I drink more than one galss of it.

  • Construction season sucks.  That's all I have to contribute.
Oh, and apparently I have a bunch of family up in MSP.  Don't know any of them, but they're up there.  I've only been there once for a volleyball tourney in high school - it was cold.

  • It IS certainly cold. Fucking cold.

  • I hate cold.  I'm trying to convince FI to move to New Mexico.  Once our house isn't worth half of what we paid for it, I'm out of here.

  • Reisling is a great sweet white. Relax is a decent one ... Polka Dot (the pink one) is pretty sweet. I always like Kendall Jackson Reisling too.

The most sweet reds I've had are ones with Granache grapes in them (or a straight granache wine) and Boujoule Nouveau. That one's only available in November, though.

Oh - also Pinot Grigio can be a sweeter white, too.

Yum. This makes me want wine too ...

  • I really like Riesling - Schmitt Sohne is a good inexpensive one.  White Zinfandel is another sweet wine, but not as sweet as Riesling.  Also consider something different like cherry or apple wine, maybe from a local winery.

  • I'm a ridiculous wine drinker because all I do is arbor mist or barefoot. Cheap a*ss stuff that's sweet :)

Gewurtztraminers are sweet but pair well with cheeses.

Are you sure you want only sweet wines?  I think too much sweet wine causes hangovers.  If you're having a sweet sparkling wine, I'd go with an oaky Chard and a middle of the road Merlot to balance things out and coordinate with most menus.
  • Oooh, she's right about the Gewurtztraminer - it's delicious!

  • I personally like Barefoot's Miscoto the best. It's a light wine, not that expensive and usually on sale. I really wish FI would drink wine so I would have a reason to by it:(
  • If YOU drink wine, that's reason enough, my dear.

Lindeman's is a good brand - Australian.  I like the merlot, but they have other varieties.  Bota Box and Black Box are good too.  Generally, anything from Chile or Australia is good.

  • my domestic favorites are Simi  (California chard) and Cat's Pee in Goosberry Bush ( from New Zealand.)

I love the cavas from spain.  Their sparklings are almost as good as real champagne!

Chili has a ton of great wines but half of the NYC wine stores are pulling this "The Earthquake made the price go up, I didn't"  Bullshiit.  You're trying to price gouge and you're talking to the wrong person
