Anyone wear contacts?

I have pretty bad vision at a distance. I wear glasses when driving and that's usually it since I'm on a computer at work which I can see just fine. Now my concern is when I'm walking down the aisle I want to see FI's face. So I'm debating getting contacts for the day. So my quesiton is, how long do you think it will take me to get use wearing them?

Re: Anyone wear contacts?

  • What has stopped you from wearing contacts all these years? I can't imagine...rather.. I don't want to imagine life without them. You can't feel them in your eyes, there's nothing to get used to unless you get hard lenses, which I don't recommend. The only thing you will have to get used to is taking them out and putting them in. It takes two seconds. You will never ever regret getting contacts. Ever. Get them. Go now.

  • Agreed with PP. It took seconds to get used to.

  • When I first got contacts (7th grade), it took me literally 45 min to get the stupid things in my eyes. I can't imagine not having contacts now. You should be able to get used to putting them in/taking them out in a month or 2, and there really isn't anything to get used to once they are in your eyes. I highly recommend getting them!

  • I am the same way as PP's... it was tricky to get them out the first couple of times I tried, but I got used to them rather quickly. Now FI, he seems to be more like you... he couldn't even watch me take them our or put them in when we first met. lol It made his eyes water. But he decided he wanted to try them cause he too wants to wear contacts for the wedding. Since he has the issue with touching his own eye, it took him a couple of weeks to comfortable get them in and out in a reasonable amount of time. He only wears them occasionally now, but sometimes he will be in there for 5-10 minutes trying to get them in/take them out. So better earlier than later I say! That way you aren't getting frustrated on your wedding day cause you can't get a darn contact in. lol

<div>This was me.  It honestly took me a few months to get used to putting them in and out.  I would freak myself out so much that it would take me forever and my eyes would end up irritated by the time I actually got them in.  Then I got used to the taking them in and out, but I ended up with an allergy to the multi-purpose solution.  So now I use hard lens cases with hydrogen peroxide for 5 minutes, then switching to saline.  I'd give yourself at least a month.  </div><div>

<div>I guess I never thought it was that big a deal since I only wear glasses when driving and when I was still in school. I only realized I needed them a couple of years ago. But you guys talked me into it :) I'll at least give it a try!</div>

  • I am or was like you ... I only wore glasses for work and school and occasionally wear them driving. I am near sighted ... but I decided this year to try contacts!!!

Let me just say I still cannot do eye drops and the doc has to hold my eyes open for drops but after a while you get used to contacts! Since my eyes aren't horrible I switch off between glasses and contacts during the week and on weeeknds usually forget to wear either. Again being nearsighted its not big deal for me!

I don't feel them when I'm wearing them unless there dried out in which case I remove them and dip them in solution.

The first few times putting them in took me about 20 min but within time you'll get the hang of them!

I can't function without eye correction of some kind. I wore glasses from second grade until I was 17. I never felt a need to get contacts, but my mom kept pressuring me to saying how much better I would be able to see and so on and so forth. Turns out my eyes which are both nearsighted and I have astigmatism, wouldn't have even been able to have contacts anyway til that time. They just came out with my power by the time I went to get them. It took a few weeks to get taking them in and out, but its a cinch. Besides being able to see soooo much better than with glasses, I actually noticed my eyes for the first time and so did everyone else! Your eyes will appear bigger and brighter and you will likely get compliments on your pretty eyes all the time! Im very glad we convinced you to try them out. You won't regret it. I promise.

  • I wear contacts, if you get the soft ones it doesn't take much getting used to them. I got over the whole 'finger in your eye' thing pretty quickly, lol! I very rarely wear my glasses unless I'm just getting up in the morning and havent put them in yet for the day. Plus I think I look strange in glasses.

  • I wear mine sometimes.  I'll definitely wear them on my wedding day.  They take 45 min tops to get used to, and then you're completely fine.  I don't even realize mine are in half the time.

  • I had glasses starting in middle school I think and wanted contacts for my first wedding. I wore them for almost 10 years. It did take me awhile to get used to putting my finger in my eye. If you wear them too long you will get dry eyes.

In December 2007 I got LASIK so now I don't wear either :)

  • I tried contacts once, but could never really get used to them.  I had a really hard time getting them in my eyes, and my eyes always seemed really dry and burned when I had them in, so I gave up on them and just use my glasses.
I actually like wearing my glasses, I feel like my eyes are more protected, especially when I'm doing woodworking and stuff in our garage.

  • I had a hard time at first but now I don't know what I would do without them. Like PP said give yourself a little bit to get used to them and ask your eye doctor for tricks to getting them in and out easier.

Melb- multi-purpose solution ALWAYS burned my eyes so I switched to bio true and it is the most amazing solution I have ever used in my life. No burning and my eyes feel great all day long.

Becky- did Lasik freak you out? I looked at it but was so worried about staring at a laser that was cutting my eye and freaked myself out too much.

When I had the LASIK surgery done they gave me a Valium to relax and then numbing drops in my eyes. So you are awake but don't feel a thing. It's very trippy to lay there and see them peel away layers of your eye though! They gave me another Valium before going home (my ex drove). I then had some prescription drops that lasted about 2 weeks. I had the surgery done on a Friday and went back to work Monday, but wished I would have taken the Monday off too. It got very boring over the weekend not having anything to do when staring at a screen for too long hurt my eyes.

  • I've had contacts for 7 years and can't imagine life without them. I still wear my glasses but not nearly as much as I wear my contacts. I only really wear my glasses before bed and whenever my eyes are irritated. Wen I first got contacts it did take me about 45minutes to an hour to put them in but I think that lasted maybe 2 weeks to a month and now it literally takes me a minute to it them into both eyes, if that.

Wow I hope it doesn't take me that long to put them in, I already have to get up at 5am as it is lol. 2 weeks isn't bad to adjust though.

  • I had astigmatism in both of my eyes as well as being very nearsighted (20/400 vision)  I hated contacts because I have very dry eyes, and because of the astigmastisms I had to wear the funny weighted ones.  I had contacts on and off from age 15 and never got used to them.

Then I had LASIK.  It's AMAZING! I have 20/15 vision, and I can see better at night.  Yes, the procedure is weird, but it doesn't hurt or anything.  Just make sure that you find the right eye doctor with the right type of laser (yes, they are different types of LASIK)
