Farmer's Market/Market Flowers

Hello all,

To be honest, I really could care less about flowers and I certainly hate the idea of spending a lot on them but want flower centerpieces.  I am unsure whether I even want a bouquet for myself...but am considering using Minneapolis Farmer's Market flowers purchased the morning of my wedding!  This actually seems kind of exciting to me but it is leaving a lot up to chance!

Then I just discovered Market Flowers and thought it'd be fun to make my centerpieces a couple days in advance but it still may end up being pricey at Market Flowers.

I'm getting married May 5th and color isn't very important to me.  Anyone done either of these or can offer cheap alternatives to paying hundreds/thousands for flowers that die?

I ordered all of mine from Sam's Club. It was $150 for all of the flowers for the wedding and maybe another $10 in supplies to make all the bouquets... The flowers arrived as requested and were all in perfect shape. I had a great experience. I used them for the centerpieces and bouquets.

We also got flowers from Sams Club. They are one of the very cheapest options for DIY flowers and you leave so much less to chance by ordering through them. If you are DIYing flowers, I'd highly recommend not doing them the morning of. You will have a million other things to do and wont want to worry about putting flowers together. We did all of our flowers for less than $400 and had a ton of them. I conditioned them the Friday before the wedding, my girls and I put everything together Sat night, and they were ready to go for our Sunday ceremony.

I've heard Costco too!! Market Flowers are beautiful... but if you do your own flowers more than 3 days prior - make sure the buds of the flowers are more closed or the flowers will wilt. you'll want them to be open and beautiful so pick flowers that are just opening that far in advance. Day of - you can do whatever :)

The main reason I chose not to do the Farmer's market route was just because it was another thing I had to do in the few days before the wedding and since I got married on a Friday I wanted the flowers on Wednesday and the farmer's market was Thursday I believe... so I could have scoped out the vendors before hand and figured out where they were going to be on Wednesday but honestly I thought it was a lot easier to pick exactly what I wanted online, pick which day to have it delivered, and sit back and worry about whether it would actually work or not! But it did work and they came out fantastic!

I'm planning on doing Mpls Farmer's Market or Costo flowers, too. Costco feels a little safer to me, because you know what you'll be getting, and you can order ahead of time. If you go the market route, I agree with what others said about not doing it the morning of. Do it one or two days before (and designate someone to take care of all of this or at least help you with it) and make sure to read up on how to properly store and take care of the flowers so they don't wilt or start opening before you want them to.

I did a trial DIY bouquet from farmer's market roses. It cost about $12 to make for flowers + flower tape, looked gorgeous, and lasted for about 5 days! (I would still make it the day/evening before, though).
