Writing thank you cards

What's the most appropriate wording to thank someone for a cash gift? Is it inappropriate to say that we're saving for a house? Would it be better to say we will use it as we begin our new life together? I'm at a loss for wording and really not wanting to accidentally offend someone.

I think saying you are saving for a house is fine. If I were the recipient of the card, I would like to know that my gift went toward something that important.

I would just say something like "Thank you for your generous gift. We plan to use it towards a down payment for our future home!" And then continue to thank them for coming and how it was great to see them.

I would write something along these lines:

Thank you so much for the wedding generous gift. We plan to use the money toward a down payment on a house (or whatever you plan to use it for). I was very nice of you to think of us.
