Getting in Shape

Oh my!! I need to lose weight! **INTRO**

Hello! I'm Kelli and I'm 27. I am planning my third marriage (don't get me started!?), however this is my fiance's first. We are getting married February 12, 2012. We're expecting around 80 guests and super excited! I have two daughters, 8 and 6, from my previous relationships, however my fiance is their male role model and I can't imagine anyone else in his place. We also reside in York, Pa......

Since my fiance and I started dating, we've both gained about 20 pounds. He needed to gain the weight since he was so skinny, but I'm so devastated by my weight gain. There's been a lot of stress in our lives recently, and I believe I've been binge eating. I've been trying to get motivated and start going on the Weight Watcher points system - a link I found online, without having to actually join. I've made sure to pretty much clear out as much as I can out of the fridge so that I have a clean slate and no cravings to throw off my diet. I will be starting this diet sometime within the next week or so - depending on when I have time to actually spend enough time at the grocery store to do a massive healthy run.
On the otherhand, I'm also trying to join a gym. I'm not the type of person who is able to stay motivated enough to go alone. I've got the WII Fitness and am hoping to start that soon as well. So.. I guess my big thing is.. how do I stay motivated?

  • Fnd rewards that are meaningful and fun but not focused on food!  Treat yourself to a new pair of jeans or a massage when you reach goals.
  • What helped me is not thinking of it as something you have a choice in. I go to the gym 3 days a week for 40 mins. no matter what. Take the choice away from it and it'll start becoming routine. Like taking a shower. It's gonna suck for the first couple of weeks but by then you'll feel stronger and that may be enough to do it for another week, then another week...

Also, netflix streaming on the iPhone. I watch an epsode of something while working out an it keeps me enternained, and not thinking about how i really want to stop. ;) I know it sounds stupid but it helps.

    Good luck!
  • set small acheivable realistic goals and I agree when you hit them reward with massage new dress etc..everyone has different motivations...you have to find out what work to motivate your drive.. some people I work out with actually take pictures in a bathing suit and then stare at it so they can strive to keep losing weight as they are not happy with the picture they see...but find something that works for you...
  • I've always been heavy but I also gained weight when I started dating my fiance almost 3 yrs ago and I'm finally getting it off! I agree that rewarding yourself(without food) is key! I've lost about 20lbs since the end of September with Weight Watchers(even with a few gains in the process). I'm not sure about the website that you'll be using that is similar to Weight Watchers but going to the meetings really helps me feel supported and confident. What helps keep me motivated is seeing that I actually CAN lose the weight and I want to keep surprising myself and pushing myself to do even better each week. I go to group fitness classes at a local gym with a Groupon I bought a couple months ago (20 classes for $19!) so scheduling that fitness time keeps me on track. It's my time for myself when I can have fun, release and get my heart rate up. It reminds me that I have to continue to put myself 1st in this weight loss/healthy living journey. Best of luck to you!
  • I wish my fiance would work out with me

  • I went to a training once.  The speaker said, "a lot of people feel they need to be motivated to do things. You absolutely do NOT have to be motivated to do things.  You just HAVE to do them."   THAT motivates me.
