FL Marriage Lisence questions

So I live out of state (in MA) and we are getting married in FLA. I am starting to think about how we are going to obtain our marriage lisence. We are getting married May 26th and are coming down on May 22nd - we are getting married in Boca Raton.

Does anyone know where we can go to apply for the lisence? Do we need an appointment? I don't believe there is a waiting period for non-FL residents. I'm also hearing of a "mail-in" application for a lisence - but this makes me nervous for some reason.

Any tips or advise on how we should do this?

Re: FL Marriage Lisence questions

  • Hey,
FI and I actually did the application by mail.  If you want info., send a PM.  Yesterday, I emailed the woman in that dept. and she told me they already mailed it to our officiant on Monday.

Im unfamiliar with Palm Beach, but I know in Broward you have to apply in person. You are correct when it comes to the waiting period of 3 days being waived for non-residents of the state. The fee is $93.50 payable in cash or credit. No blood test is required (some states require that). The license is only good for 60 days. Check out the clerk's office website for hours, they vary. I believe most are open until 4pm or 4:30pm. I would probably go first thing in the morning when they open. If you are going to the Palm Beach main courthouse, parking is hard to find. If you manage to find a spot in the garage across the street from the courthouse, parking there is cheap, compared to Broward. If you go to Broward, the main courthouse, I would suggest finding other parking besides the courthouse garage - there are only 2 levels for people because they tore down the other garage and employees take up 95% of the garage now. But you probably would be better off going to Palm Beach, although Broward is quick and easy ... once you get to the room (parking is worse than Palm Beach).
  • I was in the same boat that you were.  The whole process was super simple.  The Palm Beach county courthouse is really easy to get to and there was plenty of parking.  You go to the Civil Court side and to the third floor, (if I remember the florr correctly) and go to the back.  They give you the form and a booklet to read.  Fill it out and then go wait on line again.  You will have to pay a fee of $93ish and they print up a license for you.  The whole process took about 30 minutes.  We got our license on 10/9, married on 10/11 and got the marriage certificate back on 10/17.
