My mom called her doctor on Monday and she said to come into the office. We went today and no surprise- it's Stage 1 breast cancer. Luckily it was caught very early and there is a 99% chance that it will be cured. After meeting with the doctor we were sent to another doctor to discuss what the options are. Looks like my mom will be losing her left breast. They will be able to do reconstruction but she needs to decide which of the 3 types to choose from. The doctor said she should begin pre op testing ASAP. My mother told her about the wedding and my honeymoon and they both agreed that the surgery could wait until after both of them. It is tentatively scheduled for April 17th, 2 days after I come home. At this point they don't know if she'll need chemo or radiation. We're looking at about a 6 month ordeal so it looks like I'll be staying home this summer to care for her. So keep praying ladies. On a positive note she told me she decided she actually does want a grandchild. Go figure.
