Song List

Anyone have a song list made out yet?
songs for your bridal party entrances or mother/son, father/daughter dances?
I am at loss in these areas. Trying to think of a good song for FI and his mom - she loves Madonna, but naturally doesn't want a fast dance. What about songs for your ceremony? any thought on any of this...I'd be interested to read your responses. Thanks :)

Re: Song List

  • we really have not thought of this. i started a shared google document with my fiance to keep track of ideas that we get. i think it has 2 songs on there right now.

the one i really like for our entrance is taylor swift's "love story". it's cute and sweet and poppy. it's probably overused but im sort of debating the friends theme song for our bridal party. and then for the father/daughter dance i'll probably let my dad pick, he has a bunch of favorite songs. i still don't know what our first dance song will be.

we haven't done our ceremony music yet, but i've been meaning to meet with the organist at our church. i'm so excited to have the huge lofted organ music :)
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • I wish I was further along with this one, but I do have a few decisions made:

    1. I'll be walking down to Canon in D - I just HAVE to. That' what I've always pictured myself walking down the aisle to.
    2. Bridesmaid will be walking down to Falling Slowly from the movie Once. I love love love this song. My little string duo will be playing it.
    3. And I'll be dancing with my father to Teach Your Children Well by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. It's just a song that has always reminded me of my dad, and the meaning is great! It's just a little more upbeat, so I'm not sure how we'll dance, but I guess we'll figure it out!

I would LOVE to hear everyone else's ideas!!!!

  • Check out weddingwire.com for song ideas. I was actually just browsing today and saw so many songs that definitely need to be on the list!!All I know is that our song is "These are the Moments" by Edwin McCain and our choreographed dance will most likely be "Tik Tok" (one of my son's faves lol). I'll prob dance to something by The Righteous Brothers or Elvis with my dad; I grew up listening to that stuff :P

  • I downloaded all of our pre-ceremony and ceremony music this weekend.

Pre-ceremony music is mainly Vitamin String Quartet covers with one Section Quartet one thrown in. Right now we have: In Your Eyes, Wild Horses, Sweet Child of Mine and Such Great Heights. Will probably tweak this a bit.

I am sort of using the same song as my processional and recessional. MoH and I are both walking in to VSQ's cover of At Last and we're walking out to Eva Cassidy's cover.

We're not having any dancing, special or otherwise. At some point I'm planning on gathering a good collection of jazz and blues standards for the reception.

I haven't started with our ceremony music yet but we our wedding party is walking into the reception  to the theme from Top Gun and FI and I are walking into Danger Zone (He's a huge Top Gun fan).  We are dancing to Almost Paradise from Footloose (I wanted that) and for the Father-Daughter dance we are doing Unforgettable.

  • We have some of it figured out...

We know we are doing VSQ for the pre ceremony music while people are arriving (infact our whole wedding website is VSQ songs).

I am not sure what the others are entering to, but I right now am in love with the song Lovely Tonight by Joshua Radin for me to walk down the aisle to.
I plan on doing our recessional to Good Life by One Republic.

I have no idea what people are entering the reception to lol
Our first dance is God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton.
I am doing a Mother/Daughter dance to Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood (my dad passed away when I was 15)
FI isn't sure what's going on, but I think he's dancing with his sister, just don't know the song (his mother has decided that dancing is against her religion, long story)
We are also planning to do the 'Anniversary Dance' to Love Like Crazy by Lee Brice

Still not sure about cake cutting, garter toss, bouquet toss, etc....

</div><div>OMG Falling Slowly is a song I REALLY want in our ceremony. Supposedly they don't allow "secular" songs at our ceremony site though. We're going to discuss this with them first before making a decision. </div><div>
</div><div>Otherwise, I too HAVE to walk down to Canon in D. I've always wanted to. </div><div>
</div><div>As far as entrance song for the reception, we will most likely use "Golden Age" from the Heineken Commercial. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqUnsKMsRxM" title="Golden Age" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqUnsKMsRxM</a> There's the link. It's the perfect song for us! Cause we totally wished we lived in the Golden Age! </div><div>
</div><div>We will most likely be dancing to LOVE by Nat King Cole, because that's our song, but I'm sure we'll have another dance as well to show off some Lindy moves. </div><div>
</div><div>The rest we have yet to figure out. I do write down songs I'd like to hear played when I hear them. We for sure are making a slide show with pictures of us and are using "The Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel for the background music. I also want to use "Come What May" from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. </div>

Ours keeps totally changing because FI and I may be the two most indecisive people in the world....

Walking down the aisle: All Your Life by The Band Perry
Recessional after the ceremony: Say Hey by Michael Franti and the Spearheads
Entering Reception: September by Earth Wind and Fire I think! Our music is so all over the place but we both love this song... we sing it all the time on car rides lol
First Dance: Thats How Strong My Love Is by Otis Redding (this changes hourly....). We really like At Last by Etta James but Im a little scared its too cliche!
    Father/Daugher Dance: no clue. lol
    Mother/Son Dance: no clue either
Anniversary Dance: Love Like Crazy by Lee Brice
Cake Cutting: How Sweet it is by James Taylor

When someone asks this again in a few months Im expecting every song on my list to be different lol. I love the choices you girls are making -- especially what you walk down the aisle to! Good stuff :)

  • We're getting there!

FI's favorite song is Yellow by Coldplay and I found an instrumental of this so I'll surpirse him by walking down this aisle to this. Other than that we don't have any ceremony music picked out.

Our first dance will be God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton. My brother and I are dancing to Whenever You Remember by Carrie Underwood. My FI and his mother haven't picked out a dance song yet!

  • This is good to read for some inspiration! All I know right now is that I want to walk down to the aisle to the Beatles' Here, There and Everywhere, though possibly played by a string quartet. For our first dance we've been thinking about a few different things. It will definitely be an oldies song and we are thinking about the Beatles' In My Life (which was my parents' song!) I have no idea what to use for my father-daughter dance. That is the part of the wedding that always makes me cry the most, though, so I'm nervous about choosing something haha.

  • Attendant's Processional - "I Will" by The Beatles (acoustic guitar, played by my brother & best friend's father)

Aisle Walk- "Amazed" by Paul McCartney & Wings (acoustic again)

Recessional- "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder (DJ will play this)

Attendant's Entrance to Reception- "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey

Mine & Chris' Entrance to Reception- "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness

First Dance- "Thank You" by Led Zep

Father/Daughter Dance- either "Hold My Hand" by Hootie & the Blowfish or "Teach Your Children Well" by Crosby, Stills, & Nash (I LOVE how someone above also had this- makes me giggle that i'm not the only one considering it!)

    Mother/Son Dance- No idea

Cake Cutting- "Sweet Pea" by Amos Lee

Bouquet Toss- No idea, but not "Single Ladies" haha

Garter Toss- "Foxy Lady" by Jimi Hendrix
  • We have the ceremony music figured out.  The bridesmaids will be walking in to Pachelbel's Cannon in D, I will walk in to Wagner's Bridal Chorus, and we will process out to Mendelssohn's Wedding March.  Really traditional stuff.  I'm trusting the organist to make good choices for the prelude music as people walk in and leave the church.

The reception music has us stumped.  We haven't even considered what music we will be introduced to.  I kind of thought there wouldn't be music, since the DJ will be talking as he says the bridal party memeber's names and our names.

Our first dance will most likely be a Frank Sinatra song.  FI wanted "Something" by The Beatles and I wanted "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.  We're taking dance lessons, so the instructor said he would also help us pick a song if we need him to.

I really like "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon or "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban for the father/daughter dance.  We won't be doing a mother/son dance as FI's parent's are divorced and his mom would be unwilling to share the dance with his step-mom and FI didn't feel right about dancing with either of them if he couldn't dance with both.

  • I have no idea about ceremony music. We talked about it last weekend but I am clueless where to even start with ceremony music. I thought about walking down the aisle to "Bless The Broken Road"  by Rascal Flatts or "All Your Life" by The Band Perry.

My FI is picking our first dance song. I am doing a dance with my grandpa and I think I am doing "The Way You Look Tonight" and then I am doing a dance with my mom and I am doing "Momma's Song" by Carrie Underwood I have no relationship with my father so I thought doing something with my mom and grandpa would be nice. We are also doing "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey for the bridal party entrance. My best friend past away last year and that was always our party song so I thought that would be special.

  • We are doing a joint mother/son father/daughter dance to Johnny Cash's version of In My life.

Not sure about the ceremony yet.  We are having a string quartet and I'm not sure what they can play.

    As for the rest:

Intro: Tell Em-Sleigh Bells (Diplo Remix)
    First Dance: Echo- Incubus
Anniversary Dance (instead of flower/garter toss): Baby, I Love You-Ramones
    Cake Cutting: Love You Madly-Cake

  • Wow, some of you have some really awesome, unique music picked out for your ceremonies!

We havent done much in the way of selecting music. I know our ceremony music will be very traditional/classical music played by a violinist. Im pretty set on walking down to Canon in D like some of you.

Our first dance song will be Cant Take My Eyes Off You - Frankie Valli.

Annnd thats as far as we have got. I have the music selection sheet from the violinist, I guess I could get started on trying to figure that out!

    YES

this will be somewhere at my reception as well.  FI saw a video where the whole weddign party did a (semi)choreographed dance to Dog Days are over by Florence and the Machine, we're kind of in love wtih that too.

Other songs we're considering, though not really sure where they will all be used:
    XX: Islands
    Fun: We are Young
Say Anything: Alive with the Glory of Love  (I'm as excited for the song as I am to see people faces at the into of this song, but it is hapenening regardless)
Alkaline Trio:  Every Thug Needs a Lady (from Damnesia) Might be our first dance?

</div><div>I almost picked that XX song for our first dance!  I also had Lions by the Features in the running <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />  They are still backups in case we can't dance to our chosen song.  Also love that Fun song, but I wasn't sure if it was too sad.... and I can't wait to see how the Say Anything song goes over lol.  Sounds like we have very similar taste in music!</div>
