Getting in Shape

The beginning of the new me!

A couple weeks ago I posted here asking for some advice and I got some great tips from you all! I decided to set lifestyles goals for every two weeks instead of focusing so much on the number on the scale. Each goal is going to build upon previous goals so that I'm making permanent changes in my life instead of dieting just for the wedding. Today marks two weeks since I started which is my first check-in for myself and I thought I would give you all an update.

I set two goals for the first two weeks.
      1) Cut out soda and start drinking more water
      2) Portion Control (I have a horrible tendency to over-eat)

I still have long term goals but instead of just a weight goal I set a weight goal, a goal for waist measurement and a goal for dress size. I wrote down all of my starting values and took my before pictures. I started at 274.6 lbs, 44in waist, and a size 22W. My long term goals are 170lbs, 38in waist, or a size 14. I would be happy to reach any one of those goals. I'm hoping that by setting different types of goal when I hit that plateau that I know will come and I stop seeing a difference on the scale I will still see a difference in another area.

So, how did my first two weeks go?
I achieved both of my goals. I have completely stopped drinking soda and I have been watching how much I eat. Today I did my first weigh-in and I have gone from 274.6 to 264.8. Almost 10 lbs down and it feels great.

My goals for the next 2 weeks are:
1)Develop and maintain a regular excercise routine
2)Start watching WHAT I eat as well as HOW MUCH I eat.

Thank you all so much for all of your advice! Sorry this has been a bit longer than I intended. lol. I will be sure to keep checking in!

  • Great job! I think the way you're approaching this is smart and focused and the best way to keep yourself motivated and on track to set up a healthy life, not just a wedding diet. Seriously, keep up the great work! You are rocking it!

  • You are off to a wonderful start! Congrats!

It will be a lifestyle/habit before you know it, and you'll keep meeting those goals. Setting small, attainable ones is the best way not to get discouraged.

    You do rock!

  • Congrats! That's awesome and I will steal your idea of measuring the waist and focusing moreso on that. I know scales always depress me (I just bought one for our house. It's currently hiding out of my sight until I weigh in at the end of the week). Sounds like you're doing well.
  • Thanks everyone! It makes such a difference to have people encourage me and show support like this.

To kwitherington: That does not make you sound like a douchecanoe (which i love that word and am totally stealing it lol) I know exactly what you are talking about. I have tried dieting many times before and always got discouraged when the scale stopped showing progress. That why I have the lifestyles goals and the other measurements so that even when the scale doesn't say so, I know I am accomplishing something.
