how many registries can/should you have

How many is too many?  Right now FI and I are thinking Crate and Barrel or William Sonoma (haven't decided which one yet), Bed Bath and Beyond, and Macy's.  Is 3 registries to many? Additionally, there is a store called Ten Thousand Villages which supports fair trade items and some of their household stuff is beautiful.  I'd probably want less than 10 items from Ten Thousand Villages, so should we just suck it up and put any cash we receive from the wedding towards buying those items on our own and not make a 4th registry?

Re: how many registries can/should you have

  • I think 4 registrys would come off a bit greedy, I think your idea of buying them on your own with cash received is much better :)

  • Yeah I figured 4 would come off as greedy.  My mom is a huge fan of Ten Thousand Villages and I know she'd love to get me stuff from there so I could always drop her a hint of some items I'd like from there
  • Honestly, I see maaaaany people around here with 5-6+ registries.  People I know tend to do sevreal small local shops plus 3-4 natonal place to cover all your bases.  3 is more than fine for me.  It even feels a little restrictive, in case I wouldn't want to shop at one of those 3 places.  But I know I'm in the minority around here.

  • I think 2 is perfect.  3 max.  Too many and it looks like all you care about is shopping around and adding things to your registry.
  • I think that 2-3 is normal, but I recently attended a Mennonite wedding and the couple had 5-6 registries, one of those being Ten Thousand Villages since it's a Mennonite-owned shop or something.  While I would not really want to go over three registries, Ten Thousand Villages is closer to a specialty shop, so I wouldn't side-eye it if you had a fourth registry that just had a few random things.

I thought about registering there since there's one in my FH's town and a LOT of people he knows shop there regularly (he's Mennonite, too :)), but I figure that we'll still get stuff from there and I can just be surprised.

  • 2-3(max)...I would say that BBB and Macys are similar...as are C&B and WS...maybe choose one of each and then the Ten Thousand Villages
  • I shop at Ten Thousand Villages all the time. I never thought to register there, but what a great idea! It's also nice for your guests because if they sign up for their e-mail list, the store sends discounts and coupons all the time and alerts them to sales.

I personally don't like more than two registries. I wouldn't mind three if one of them was Ten Thousand Villages or a similar store, because it gives guests a unique choice and it's a specialty store.

  • We had three but were REALLY pressured by several people to register at BBB as well once we were told we were having a shower.  We did our best to shop around for the best prices before adding them to the registries, I think one store only has a couple things on it simply because we didn't see them anywhere else.  Our Amazon registry we just had fun with ;)  Not by ANY means expecting a whole lot, but looking forward to seeing what surprises are in store :)

  • I honestly wouldnt side eye you because the 4th registry is a really specialized store where you would only register for a handful of items. I definitely would do a 4th registry if I had somewhere like that, I personally am planning on having 2-3.

  • Great thanks. I def think since we only have a handful of items we want and it's a specialty store I won't worry too much if we end up with 4 registries
