DJ recommendations

Hey fellow DFW knotties! I have been doing a little "online shopping" for a DJ in the area and as of right now, everyone looks pretty good. The 3 top choices from the suggestion list my venue sent me are 1) Chad Allen Events 2) Glen Roush Entertainment and 3) Mike Mahnick DJ and Pro MC.

Do y'all have any suggestions or people I should definitely keep away from?? Since i'm still in school, and my fiance (also in school) and I are paying for everything, I want to keep the price semi-reasonable.

Thanks y'all!

Re: DJ recommendations

  • Glenn is amazing, but he is quite high-priced.  We went with his company, LeForce Entertainment.  Their DJs range from $750-$1750.  We used Cratin and he was ah-mazing!

  • Thank you so much for the heads up! I'll google that company and make sure they get put down on the list to be interviewed!
  • I am using Melodies and Memories.
Many other knotties have used them and were happy.

I would stay away from DJ connections. There have been 2 knotties here that used them and both had some trouble.
I considered booking them but there was something about talking to the guy that made me think twice.

  • I used Glenn as my DJ and will sing his praises until the day I die.  He is both a wonderful DJ and a wonderful person.  However, he was $1500 for a Saturday evening in 2009--I would imagine he is even above that now.

Thank you ladies! I really appreciate all your responses! I am adding to my list and making a "do not contact" list. Your help is so appreciated!
  • Melodies and Memories is great.

Also check out Travis with TNT Entertainment. His pricing is around $800 for a 4 hour reception and includes lighting - 817-992-3176

Hee, I could add one to the do not contact list-the guy who showed up 2 hours late to a Knottie's wedding and played "Staying Alive" when honoring her 90 year old grandmother. I'll never forget that story. He never gets mentioned here though so you're safe. :)
  • I got to admit, if that were my wedding, I would be reeaaaallly angry were that my wedding but it's a little funny and ironic....thanks for the heads uup on that one. Please alert me if he shows up so I be sure I DON'T contact him. I'm sure my 87 year old grandmother wouldn't be too pleased :)

  • Sorry for the multiple typos. Watching TV and typing apparently doesn't work well for me...BUT thank you for the awesome hints! I'm getting super excited!
  • Melody with Melodies & Memories did our wedding, LOVED her, and her prices are fantastic!!
  • I was shocked at some of the pricing. It'll depend on what day of the week the wedding is but I am going with Jaime Chavez for my December 2012 Saturday wedding. He originally quoted $2500 but is doing it for $2200. Glenn we contacted after reading the reviews here, but stephiehall, he has gonna up! Glenn was $2700.

  • OMG!! Yeah mine is a Sunday morning wedding in June. Anything over $1,750 is over our projected budget....$2700 is just waaaaaaaaaaaayyy too much money!
  • I'm sure they are alot less expensive on a Sunday but my wedding planner had to twist my arm to up the dj budget. I want it to be fun and for people to dance and enjoy themselves, even though I have no rythm myself. LOL. Heard these guys are great and can really make the reception something special. You could still get a quote. :)

  • Make sure you consider what is included in your DJ package.  Cratin was $1250 by himself, and when we added uplighting, it tacked on an extra $500.

  • And Melody provided the atmosphere, and huge dance party at ours, and she was under $1,000. Quality does not always equal price in this category if you find the right person!!!
  • I'll definitely get quotes from everyone we are looking at but as of right now Melodies and Memories definitely is in the lead. I like to give all vendors i'm interested in interviewing a chance even if I find someone else that sounds amazing. I really really appreciate everyone giving me insight. I def went over budget for photography and the dress but those were the two most important things to me, closely followed by food and music.I'll keep everyone posted when I start interviewing DJ's. If you have any other input, please feel free to continue this thread. Thanks!
  • Jabel Productions and Figment Productions are 2 more reasonably priced DJs that Knotties here have used and been happy with.
  • I have booked Glenn for June 9th.  I imagine that his price would be much cheaper for a Sunday than for a Saturday, but I never asked.
  • Michelle, were you June quotes similar to my December quotes?

  • My price is a little cheaper than that, but I locked in with the 2011 pricing - I'm sure it went up in 2012.

I also went to HS with Glenn - we sang together in choir!  LOL
