Orlando Bachelorette Party

Hello,

I am planning my little sister's bachelorette party. She lives in Tampa and I live in Pittsburgh, but she suggested that it might be fun to have a bachelorette party in Orlando. I'm just wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I'm looking for fun things do to, places to eat, and a nice but not too expensive place to stay. I've only ever been to Orlando as a kid visiting Disney, so any help would be appreciated! I plan to throw the party next Feb/March

Thanks!

Re: Orlando Bachelorette Party

  • Downtown Orlando is a lot of fun and it is a great place to bar hop.  I would maybe try to get a table at one of the bars and hop around with your girl friends.
  • Tampa = Ybor City
Orlando = City Walk at Universal
  • Downtown Orlando is definitely great for bachelorette parties. Wall St. is a good place to bar hop, there's TONS of bars right there. Napasorn Thai, Spice Steakhouse, Dexter's, The Rusty Spoon, and Ceviche are all great DT restaurants. I've been to a bacheloratte party where we started at Ceviche, because they're a bar as well and then went to several other bars throughout the night and that was a lot of fun. One of my personal favorite bar's downtown is Stardust Lounge...but it can be hit or miss depending on if they have this crappy DJ I've experienced a few times there. But it's a really fun bar that even does burlesque shows sometimes.
Also, if you're looking for a hotel near the area as well Embassy Suites is very nice and where my block is for my wedding and is right on Lake Eola...there's also a Couryard Marriott downtown that has super low prices.

  • The only problem with going downtown is that it can be unsafe.  That's why I suggested City Walk.  By unsafe I mean that there are some seedy bars on the main strip and people can get violent on the sidewalk.  If you go, be aware of your surroundings and don't bump into people (we have had to avoid lots of fights from drunk young men that get angry with you after they run into you on the street.)  On a positive note, prices for drinks are definitely better downtown.  If you go my favorite places are Casey's/Cleo's (cheap strong drinks), The Lodge (yuppy 80's and 90's music), and Bar-B-Que Bar (it has an open ceiling over the dance floor.)

We prefer to do happy hour downtown which is great (especially on holidays like St. Patty's) and then we go to other areas like Winter Park and Lake Mary/Heathrow as the night goes on because those crowds tend to be better behaved.  However, these areas are really not the place to go for a bachelorette party.

I had my bachelorette at City Walk and what was nice is that with all of the tourists, there were plenty of people who were game for bachelorette shenanigans.  You eat dinner at one of the restaurants and then you get a club pass that gets you into the clubs.  I would try to stay on property at the Hard Rock or Portofino Bay.
  • I don't know if I would say downtown Orlando is more unsafe than anywhere else that has drunk people wandering around. I've gone out downtown dozens of times and have NEVER had something like that happen...and I've even been dragged into some "questionable" bars and still had no incidents...if anything, there are always lots of cops downtown, especially Wall St. I think it totally depends on the crowd you are with or around. If you have people who you can trust around you that make sure you're happy and safe than you can have fun anywhere.

  • If you're dead set on Orlando, go to Wall Street downtown! It happens Friday and Saturday. You pay one cover and you have access to many many bars. Plus, the entire street is blocked from traffic so it's perfect for spending one night out there.
It's like one giant bar, lots of people and lots to see and do.
If you do City Walk, it could be disappointing.. Insanely expensive drinks and all of the people around you will be either old tourists hitting on you in their Teva sandals or 15 year old tourists wandering around in little groups desperately trying to get into the cheesy bars.
Tampa actually has a bit better of a bar scene, but if she's looking to get out of Tampa, Orlando could be really fun! Plus the shopping can't be beat!
  • Ok, thanks for all of the info! I now have lots of things to look up!

I really was looking at Orlando because my sister mentioned it and I can get a much cheaper flight there (through Spirit) than I can to Tampa.

My sister doesn't really live IN Tampa (she goes to USF), so maybe somewhere in DT Tampa could be fun too?

  • I had my bachelorette party downtown and it was great! My girls treated me to the Grand Bohemian for a night and it is such a beautiful hotel! We went to dinner at Amuras and then went to a new club called Tier. We had a blast there! The VIP was great and the cocktail servers were awesome. Definitely had a Miami feel to it and it was overall a great night.

  • I second doing downtown Orlando and definitely wouldn't classify it as unsafe. I personally find the touristy bars a bore and avoid going to CityWalk. I also recomment Ceviche as a great place to have dinner and hit up Dessert Lady across the street if you're not to stuffed after dinner.
If you're looking for a splurge on a nice hotel that you can maybe split the cost between a few people, check out the Grand Bohemian.
