Fantasy in Frosting vs. Sweet Water Bakery?

We did our cake tastings at few different places and narrowed it down to Fantasy in Frosting in Newport and Sweet Water Bakery in Reading, OH.  Now I'm in a huge dilemma.  We had a great experience at the Fantasy in Frosting - their cakes were delicious, moist and they were very professional.  But I felt like the pictures I saw as their samples were a little outdated and not having seen any of their actual work, I didn't know what to think of it, if that makes sense.  And the sweet water bakery, I loved how efficient and professional they were but one of the cakes we tried weren't fresh.  Although, I really liked all the photos and designs they had to offer - modern, simple, elegant....

Anyone had good / bad experiences with either one of the bakery?

Every time I'm in a dilemma, everyone out here seems to help me make the decision, so, once again, I decided to reach out!  Thank you so much in advance!

We tasted cake at Sweetwater Bakery and the owner was very nice, but the cake really wasn't as good as some of the others we tried.

Sweet Water Bakehouse is who we went with after Maribelle closed and returned deposits. We are in LOVE with their oreo cake (cookies n Cream)...its sooooo delish!!! Ive been in two weddings that used them and the cake was very moist. We picked the 19th one on page two of their gallery website. The little pearls are quite soft.

The only thing I have ever seen that was a "miss" with Sweet Water was a cake they did for a rehersal dinner that was a tennis theme cake. The cake was great but the concept the my friend (the bride) had, which they said they understood, was missed. She realized she should have drawn it or had them help draw it so everyone was on the same page.Again, the cake was WONDERFUL!!

Good luck, cake is a hard choice because it varies so much!

I didn't use either, but I did take decorating classes at FIF ages ago.  The lady who taught us worked there, and she had a ton of pictures from cake shows.  I'm sure most bakeries will be more than happy to work from a picture.  I haven't tried either of their cakes, but if the design is the only thing holding you back from a better tasting cake (from what you said), I think I'd go with taste.  Look elsewhere for pictures of what  you like (the knot has a huge library) and go from there.

    GL!

I LOVED Fantasy in Frosting. Great work, and their cake is amazing. I can tell you the parking lot that goes to my apartment connects to their parking lot in the back and they have some amazing cakes that go out all the time. We have become friends with the owner and I can tell you he always shows us great work! their shop might look a little old, but there is nothing old about their cakes and designs. He took a clip art piece and turned it into our cake (the design on the side) he did a GREAT job. I did table cakes and a small two tier for the head table... here are some shots:

I did a tasting with Fantasy in Frosting last week and looked through a whole album of up-to-date cakes. They do some great stuff!   I wouldn't be worried about it looking dated. Maybe go back there and ask to see some recent pictures...
