Wedding Day Timeline

Hello, I am trying to figure out my wedding day timeline. Everyone keeps asking me, well when are we going to start getting ready, and so on and so forth. Our wedding will begin at 4. At first I didn't want to see my groom before the ceremony but now I think I'd like to take pictures of us first, I need help on what should be done when. I am getting my make up done at 11 and hair at 12. Any suggestions would help me out greatly! Thanks!!!!

  • I actually walked through my entire wedding day with my photographer first! He's going to be there for all of it and he's done enough that he had ideas/options for timing of things and knew how long most parts would take too!
  • What if you just waited until you are both at the ceremony site to see eachother then (or maybe meet at a special palce). That way there is significance (not like you need more on your wedding day) to the place you are seeing eachother for the first time! Depending on your hair length, you may still be doing hair at 2 and then getting dressed and everything might put you right at 3. 

  • Try this site...very helpful spreadsheets. A few of them are timeline spreadsheets. If anything it's a great starting off point.

  • My photographer helped me with my timeline, as the timing of my hair and makeup was dependant on how long she needed for pictures. I personally decided to do pictures before the ceremony, because from a guest's standpoint I never really liked waiting around for people to do pictures between the ceremony and reception. You might consider doing a "first look" photo to start out, those end up so cute! The best thing to do to figure out scheduling is work backwards from the start time of your ceremony. Yours will obviously be different if you're not having all your girls get their hair and makeup done, but here is mine for an example:

    Ceremony start @ 6PM
    Count on guests coming early so bride should be at the venue and tucked away out of sight approx. half hour prior (5:30 PM)
    Photographer needs time to photograph details at the venue before people start showing up so we planned on this from 5PM - 5:30 PM
    The photographer planned on 1/2 hour for each set of photos and 15 minutes travel time between photo locations and venue so we have family photos @ 4:15 PM, wedding party photos @ 3:45 PM, couples photos @ 3 PM and our first look at 2:45 PM
    We'll be leaving the hotel around 2:30 PM, so my photographer will start @ 1:30 PM to capture some of my getting ready and the details like wedding dress, shoes, etc.
    I have one hair and makeup person doing me as well as four attendants so they will be starting at 10 AM, probably doing three of my girls first (planning on 45 minutes a piece), then me (planning an hour and a half) so that my getting ready lands right when the photographer will arrive.
