Finding a Seamstress

I found and ordered my dress (yay!). I know I am going to need some alterations, but I have no idea how to go about finding a seamstress. The bridal salon I brought my dress from has an in-house seamstress that they recommend, but the salesgirl made a comment about her work being sub-par and that she isn't friendly. So now I am feeling kind of lossed. The women at the salon aren't "allowed" to recommend anyone else to me.

How did everyone here find their seamstress? Was it just at the recommendation of the salon where you bought your dress? Does anyone have any recommendations for a seamstress? I'm in the Ann Arbor/Plymouth area, but would be willing to travel for a great rec!

    Honestly I got my dress at Davids and ended up getting my alterations there were was no more than what I had been quoted at other places. Both the dress and alterations were perfect!

    My dress was from David's Bridal but the alterations and hemming were not done from Davi'd Bridal. I wasn't going to pay the price of $200 to be done on my dress. I actually searched on here and found a lady named Marianne from Bombshell Bridal Boutique.The bridal shop is located in St. Clair Shores in Macomb County. My alterations and hemming for the dress was $75.

    I went to Haberman Fabrics in Royal Oak to buy a belt applique and I met Annie who used to actually make custom wedding dresses. She has since stopped making the full dresses but she does alterations. She had a very motherly comfortable personality and if she used to make the enitre dress, I felt confident that she would be good at alterations as well. I got so many compliments on my dress that were, "you're dress looked like it was made for you."...she did an awesome job for a great price. You can get ahold of her by calling the store and asking for Annie.

    Does anyone know a good seamstress to repair a sample dress bought of the rack? My friend was quoted $950 which is more than she paid for the dress, HELP!!!
