I always thought the vendor reviews were so helpful, it's only fair that I post my own!
Venue: Space 237 (Toledo, OH)
Grade: A+
Space 237 is amazing, and the staff equally great! We held both our ceremony and the reception at Space 237. The 4th floor is more modern with grey floors and exposed track lighting and a perfect view of the city; best of all, the space is so unique that very little decorating was required! We held the reception on the 1st floor with about 150 guests. The space is a tad small but worked great as a more informal “grazing” reception. We both LOVED Space 237 and are so happy we chose it for our event. The artwork was a great conversation piece and we have received tons of compliments from guests about the space.
Caterer: Chef Marcel (Toledo, OH)
Grade: B
Because Space 237 does not have a kitchen and can be challenging to cater, we chose the company recommended by Space 237 staff, Chef Marcel. We followed the Chef’s suggestion and went with grazing stations for our afternoon reception, an idea that worked out perfectly. We had tons of menu options and ended up with a truly unique selection that the guests loved (especially the mashed potato bar!). The food was great, the staff incredibly professional and helpful, and set-up was flawless. Lorraine is very knowledgeable about Toledo and helped us make initial decisions about vendors. She also took care of rentals and initial set-up which was a huge help.. My only caution is that she can be frustrating to work with if you like consistent communication. Many emails went unanswered and we were still finalizing details the day before the wedding.. Not to mention that we never actually received an invoice and the groom was asked to pay in cash the day of our event.
Cake: Cake in a Cup (Toledo, OH)
Grade: A+
We knew we wanted cupcakes in place of a traditional cake and Cake in a Cup was perfect! Not only are the cupcakes cute, they were delicious! Every time we turned around guests were gobbling them up. We were a little disappointed that the menu is pre-decided, but there were close to 10 options for the day we booked and we did find 4 flavors we loved. You HAVE to try this bakery, it is simply amazing!
DJ: Ultimate Nights (Toledo, OH)
Grade: B-
I do not like DJ’s.. I don’t know what it is, but I just never have. Needless to say, we were a little hesitant about booking a company. Ultimate Nights has a very easy online tool that made the process incredibly simple to create a play list, specify the order of events, and even tell the DJ what to wear and how often to interact with the crowd. Ultimate Nights handled both the ceremony and reception music. The ceremony went well, no complaints! At the reception, he did a good job keeping us on track with the cake cutting, first dance, etc. though it all did run late (I think this was probably due more to a rowdy crowd than his sense of timing..). Unfortunately, he did not seem to pay much attention to our song lists and there were a few awkward moments when the groom and I wondered what he was thinking.
Photographer: Noelleann Photography (Toledo, OH)
Grade: A+
Noelle is amazing and, of course, her work is too! Noelle was very organized, friendly, and so sweet! We really felt comfortable working with her, which says a lot from 2 people who hate to take pictures! We wanted to skip the more traditional photographs and take advantage of the urban feel in Toledo and Noelle definitely accomplished that. We could not be more happy with Noelle!
Dress: B-Ella Bridal (Ann Arbor, MI)
Grade: C
The selection at B-Ella was ok, but they do have a second location about 20 minutes north that was incredible. I did end up purchasing my dress from B-Ella but, honestly, only because I could not find it anywhere else. The staff was incredibly unprofessional.. I am not sure what was going on, but every time I was in there, it was like they were clueless! I had two appointments that were scheduled when the store was not even open and ended up waiting in the parking lot on both occasions waiting for someone to show up. The dress I chose could not be ordered and I ended up with the sample.. I was pretty nervous about that, but they reassured me countless times that everything could be taken care of and it would work out fine. Unfortunately, that is not at all what happened. The dress was never cleaned or repaired properly and I almost ended up without a dress 2 weeks before the wedding. Obviously there are risks involved when you buy a sample gown, but the problems at B-Ella were due to incorrect and inconsistent information from the staff.
Bridesmaids Dresses: Bridal Elegance (Grand Rapids, MI)
Grade: A
LOVE the bridesmaid’s dresses! Only 1 bridesmaid actually lived in MI, but the salon went above and beyond to make sure that the order was finalized and delivered without a hitch. The staff answered dozens of questions from the bridesmaids and helped them plan alterations.. and when one bridesmaid found out she would be 8 months pregnant at the wedding, they placed a last minute order and saved the day. The selection at the salon was great and they also provide a series of discounts that made my bridesmaids very happy!
Groom and Groomsmen Suits: Ticnors (Toledo, OH)
Grade: A
We decided to go with suits in place of tuxedoes and Ticnor’s had a great deal that allowed the groomsmen to buy suits at the same price it would have cost just to rent 1 tux. Scott was incredible, he knows a lot more about weddings than I would have expected and helped us coordinate the entire wedding party. Alterations were simple, even for those groomsmen who do not live in the area. Just like the bridesmaids, the groomsmen were not without the drama.. One of the guys gained so much weight between measurements and delivery that he literally broke the suit.. Scott was awesome, he just took new measurements over the phone and mailed out a new suit, no problem! Not only did all of the guys look great, but they were so excited to be able to keep the suit.
Florist: Emery’s (Toledo, OH)
Grade: A
We wanted to keep the flowers simple and decided to create single-stem centerpieces ourselves. Ken was very flexible and had great advice on how to do it. He made sure to have the single stems ready a day early which was a huge help! I think Ken was a little surprised by the simplicity of the flowers, especially the bouquets, but he was great about not pushing us to go a more traditional route. Ken was a pleasure to work with and the bouquets were perfect!
Wedding Details: www.Etsy.com
Grade: A+
It seems like we had a package arrive every day in the 2 weeks before the wedding.. I am honestly addicted to Etsy. I found vases, cake plates, centerpieces, a guest book, frames, and everything else you can imagine on Etsy. We were able to incorporate a few vintage and unique details to the reception that really made it something we loved and were proud to show off!
