duck confit

i love duck confit and i wonder why it's not on more wedding menus. is it really expensive to serve? i'm having my reception at a pretty high end restaurant but it's not on their group menu. i feel a bit weird asking if it can be. what do you think?

Duck does tend to be a bit more pricey, but so worth it. I also loooove the duck confit. I just had it on some upscale poutine this week!

It's funny, my students (grade 8s) and I were just talking about eating duck this week - the vast majority love it, so maybe it's good to challenge all those picky adult eaters out there!

I love duck too, and have for years. I made it for my Mom's birthday. However, my fiance didn't like it, I guess it's an acquired taste. Not sure that gives much help.

    Good luck.

i love duck confit, but my fiance hates it.

the restaurant probably doesn't put it on their banquet menu because a lot of people's feelings towards duck is polarized.  or because it's more expensive than chicken.

if you love it, have it at your wedding.  but consider having another option for your non-duck-loving guests.

what was that nursery rhyme that went " 'cause a duck may be somebody's mother?"

I feel like duck is a more controversial meat to eat- kind of like veal. I would never eat a baby cow, a duck or a lamb. Besides the veal being a baby cow, I don't have a better explanation for the duck and lamb besides "they are cute." Juvenile? Maybe. But it's something I just can't get past. Duck is also greasy I hear. I think it's more popular as an app/hors d'oeuvres b/c not everyone eats it.

I like duck.  If you like duck, go for it.  Just try and have a vegetarian option and one other option.

I love duck! we are serving an appetizer at our wedding of "Smoked Duck & Foie Gras Creme Brulee, with Fig Chutney" YUM! I think wedding menus are typically made to please a crowd, which is why you not see something that is more for a refined palette. But I say ask for it!
