too late for save the date?

My original plan was to order STD magnets from VistaPrint, but then I received my test batch and the color was all jacked up, I had hot pink streaks in my hair and a weird halo around my face, so obviously I am not sending those out. VistaPrint also refunded my $$.

We are getting married October 2nd, is it too late to do a save the date? How soon do you send out invites?
I got a call from the paper shop I used and my invites are here, so I am actually going to pick them up today!

I want to do a STD, but can't decide if it is too late or not..
Thoughts?

I didn't send STDs for my October wedding because time ran out. Heck even if I had them now I couldn't send them out since I still don't have all the addresses from my FMIL. As soon as she gets them to me these invites will be out the door.

I would skip them. That's only 4 months. You'll be sending out invitations in 2 months, give or take.

We didn't do STD's, and I figured we would send out invitations around the 8 week mark, but my mom, who's doing all the invitations (love her!) said that we should wait until about 6 weeks out because the longer out people get them, they will be more likely to put the invitation off to the side and forget to RSVP, or forget about it. If you send it closer to the event date, they're more likely to act quickly upon receiving the invitation.

I don't know, it made sense to me!

Sending invites 2 months out is way too early in my opinion. And skip the save the dates. Unless you're getting married on an off day (Friday, Sunday, Weekday, or holiday), STDs are completely unnecessary.

I've been getting wedding invitations way too early lately. This is why people don't RSVP in time, because you give them TOO much time. I look at it, realize its 2.5 months away, and then forget about it. 6 weeks is probably a comfortable time to get invitations out.

I didn't send out STD's for our Sept. 20th wedding. I sent the wedding invites out 6 weeks before hand. That gave my guests 1 month to RSVP and me a week to call stragglers so that I could have my final head count to my venue.

I'd skip the STDs at this point too.

I'm in a bit of a different position because my venue requires our final guest count and seating chart 3 weeks before the wedding. It's also a destination wedding for 80% of our guests. Bridal party and close family and friends received save the dates 10 months in advance, but there are some guests who did not receive a save the date. We're sending our invites out 10 weeks before the wedding. RSVPs are due 5 weeks before the wedding, which gives me 2 weeks to call stragglers and make the seating chart.

If our guests were local and our venue didn't require our guest count so early, I may have planned differently, but for us, this will work.

Too late, girl. Skip it and move on! Less stress on you.

Might give OOT guests a call if they don't know the deets, but I sent STDs with hotel info, and our guests still didn't make reservations until a week or 2 before the wedding. Hotel blocks went from 1 room reserved after STDs (my sister) to 13 the last week. Procrastinate, much?

I agree with all the girls, I would skp the STD at this point and just concentrate on the invitations. If you don't have a lot of out of town guets and its not on a holiday or off day then I don't thnk you really need them.

I had am having a short engagement of only 6 months, with the STDs going out 3.5 months months before the wedding and they have so far been the best $150 or so that I have spent. I used magnetstreet.com to make mine and my guests love them and I get compliments on them all the time and see them up on fridges at friends and families houses.
I put our wedding website on them and it was a great way for guests to become aware of the website that allowed them to see some of our engagement pictures and it answered their questions about our wedding, hotel info, and registry.
Everyone has really appreciated getting our Save the Dates not just for finding out when the wedding is but also for the reasons I mentioned above.

Does it make a difference that our wedding is on Texas/OU weekend and that many of our guests are coming down to Dallas from OKC?

FI thinks we should just skip them, and that is basically how I am feeling at this point, better to save the time $$ and postage.

Not really. If you send the invitations out 6 weeks prior, that's plenty of time for them to make arrangements to drive down one day early if they want to avoid traffic.
