Wedding Reception Help

Hi Ladies,

I'm hoping you could help me out.  My niece is getting married in Houston in the Sping of 2013.  She is having a hard time finding a venue for 50 guests or less that's not $12K.

Have you ladies in your search come across anything that is smaller that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg?

Also can you req your photographers too??

Thanks for your help and HAPPY PLANNING!!!!

Re: Wedding Reception Help

  • we're getting married at Bella Elegante, for 150 guests we're having our ceremony and reception there..  back in 8/2011 when we booked total was $12,500

Just booked our photographer Savvy Couture Creations, Lori is her name.  Very professional, reasonably priced, and organized!!

I"m getting married at the Phoenix in Weimar. It is an hour away from houston but for $4500 you get fri- sun and the owners are awesome. Its gorgeous!! they also have a bridal suite for the bride to stay in all weekend so there is no need to get a hotel room and there are 2 other rooms for the groom ( on friday) and whoever else ( like the parents). They don't require you to use their vendors but they do give you a recommendation list of cendors if you need help. My sister got married on the grounds to right in front of a lake and under gorgeous trees. I'm not having my ceremony there ( bc i want it in a local church) but i am having my reception there.

For photographers, I would recommend Kathlyn Dragna. We have her and for engagements pictures and 2 photographers for 8 hrs on the day of is $1600. She is amazing and so sweet and easy to work with. Her pictures come out wonderful.

For 50 guests, spring time and that budget I recommend Kemah Gardens.
$2,545 for Fri or Sat after 2pm includes officiant, cake and photography, that's the Garden package, you can view their packages online, kemahgardens.com.

<div>I had my wedding at Bella... wouldn't recommend it for 50 or less guest. Try Column-A in downtown Houston. <a href="http://www.column-a.net." rel="nofollow">www.column-a.net.</a></div><div>
</div><div>And I second Lori! I love her! She was my photographer and will continue to be for all events.</div>
  • She could rent a venue that allows outside catering!  That always saves a lot of money.

    --Milford House
    --Heights Firestation
--(my personal favorite) The Gardens of Bammel Lane

The rental fees on these places are pretty low (especially the first two), and it wouldn't be that expensive to cater food and drink for 50 people.

A lot of the budget problems your niece may find are in the food and beverage minimums many places have.  A lot of times, the minimums are like 10k or more, and that's a lot of food and drink for just 50 people! Lol.

    Other recs:

--The Crystal Ballroom is huge, famous, and expensive, BUT they have another room that is very beautiful called the Empire room.  The food/bev min. is really low if I remember, and the room is smaller, intimate, but beautiful with a little veranda.
--The Grove's main room is really not that expensive, but I think they have a smaller one that should fit 50 people.  That would be an even cheaper option.
--Petroleum Club--their F/B min for the Discovery room is only $2500.  Not bad--very pretty view of downtown!
--Maggiano's I think is pretty reasonable for one of their smaller rooms.

  • Thanks ladies!!!

I will pass these on to her.  I will probably be back with some more questions.

    Happy Planning!!!!!!!!!!
  • In addition to the other recs, you could check out Hoffheinz House. They have a package online that includes Hor d'oeurves, 3 course meal, Beer/wine, cake cutting, and some valet parking for $5500. Tht covers 50 people. They list other packages as well.

    We got married 11/3/12!!

  • Also you should try Rainbow Lodge in the Heights, it is a restaurant with a beautiful backyard!! As well as Brennars on the Bayou, they have a GORGEOUS gazebo area right along the bayou by Memorial Park.

My photographer is Jake Holt out of Austin, he is amazing but slightly pricey. Photos were the most important part to me though!

    Good luck!

We are having ours for 60ish at Agave road.  Their normal packages are for 100 plus but if you emil them they might be able to work something out for a smaller wedding.  We decided to do a Sunday and got lots of response from vendors because we were flexible with the date.

You might also look into Ouisie's table.  The have a great little porch and outdoor area for both the wedding and reception that would be great for 50ish..and come in for significantly less than 12K!!
  • I found one venue that hold 100 or less and its only 200.00 to rent and their food starts at 15.00 per person. I will PM the info im looking for the .
