HALLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, not really, and I also posted this on FB, so sorry if you are seeing this twice.  But I need hallllppppp.

I need to get my name changed tomorrow.  Did you need your existing SS card in-hand at the SS office to get a new one?  My parents keep mine in their safe since we live in an apartment, so I'll need to go pick it up if I do have to have it on me.

Also, did you go to the DMV first or the SS office?

Re: HALLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!

  • Oh I'm sorry....did you need help?
Because I am of none. I haven't changed my name yet and I would THINK that you should go to the SS first, and that you would be okay with just taking your marriage license because according to the marriage license rules you are supposed to present your SS card (we didn't have to but...the rules say to have it).

    I  could be wrong though.

I took my SS card and my marriage license.  But I can't remember if you actually NEED it or not.

I went to the DMV first because if you go there first, you have an actual document to take with you to the SS office with your new name (your temporary license).  And plus, I live really close to one.  But it doesn't really matter.
  • I went to the dmv first and they gave me a piece of paper as my temporary license.  At the SS office they asked for my temporary license and marriage license. I dont remember needing my SS card for anything.
  • Thank you, ladies!!

  • I went to the SS office first and had the name change paperwork filled out (available online). I had my ID and current SS card ready to go along with my marriage license, but the guy seemed so impressed that I brought the paperwork in the first place I don't think he asked me to provide the card (or my ID, now that I think of it). I think I was in and out in under an hour and a half.
I still need to get my tush to DPS. I just hate thinking about the ridiculous wait time since the last time I went it took 3 hours.
  • SS office was a heck of a lot quicker than the DMV. I was in and out there within 15 minutes. The DMV, I got there before they opened and the line was already around the corner, and I spent the first two hours of my morning there.

And all I needed was my current DL and Marriage Cert.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
