Recommend your bra

I need bra recommendations...I am a usual 38D in Victoria's Secret. Looking for a longline because I want tummy control also. I'd prefer one that goes to my hips not stops at my belly button.I also hear that Ishould get 1 size bigger bust & 1 cup size smaller...Was this what u girls did?

I am busty & kinda chubby so hoping to get a recommendation to keep me tucked in & not pulling up or down all nite...LOL Any suggestions?

So worth the little bit of extra money.
My favorites are Body by Victoria and Very Sexy.

longline is the type many women wear with their wedding dresses because they have built in corset bones down to the waist.

You should check out a specialty bra shop and I would just go on the recommendation of the women there. I've never heard to buy bigger/smaller then what you normally need. That being said you should make sure it works with your dress I didn't have a waist on my dress it was empireish and had princess seams and longline stuck out and showed. If thats the case you should wear spanx.

I am actually having the same exact problem. I went to every department store I could last night trying to find a long line bra for my dress fitting next week. I tried Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Victoria Secret, JC Penneny & even Sears, and NOTHING!

I ended up googling specialty Bras in NJ, and there is a store in Hillsborough called Elenors Botique that specializes in bigger bras. I haven't been there, but I was planning on checking them out.

I am usually a size 38DD but I don't wear Victoria's secret because they don't fit me right. When I was trying on wedding gowns, the salon had me wearing a 42D and that seems to fit ok. it sounds like I am similiar to you, busty and a little chubby in the tummy. II would want one that goes down to my hips and doesn't stop at the waist, because those are uncomfortable and just dig in to your stomach. I definitely needed to go up at least one size in the bust.. it depends on the bra though. And at least 1 size down in the cup. The D seemed a little big on me, but it is hard to tell without your dress fitting properly on top of it (and I was just trying on samples that were too big on me anyway).

Also, I think some people refer to them as a Boustier, and not a longline, maybe that's why some girls aren't sure what you are referring to.
New York & Co does not sell bras, so not sure what that person was referring to either.
I haven't started looking for one yet, but I figured I'd start at Department Stores like Macy's where they seem to have a large selection. Maybe I should get on top of this if its going to be hard finding one that fits right!

Yes, It doesn't seem to be an easy task. I actually don't know why I waited so long! I think like you I am just gonna start hopping around Macy's, JC Penney, etc... I need return policies that are more than 5 days b/c I would have to bring home & try on with my dress. I saw a few that look good online but unfortunately online exclusives for Macy's & JC Penney, which stinks that they don't have them in store.
I know David's Bridal had a few but I wasn't in love with how they fit. But I guess would be my last resort.

I'm not sure where in Jersey you are but I went to the Daine Shop in Morristown and they were great there and the woman measured me and got me a longline bra that fit perfectly. It was only like 40 bucks too which was even better because the one at David's Bridal was double that.

There is also a speciality bra shop in Edison, close to the Menlo Park Mall called Lingerie by Susan. I was on the hunt for a long line too prior to going in for my fitting and called them from Macy's, asked for what I was looking for and they had several options waiting for me when I got there.

Gia what area are you in? Depending how far South/North you are there's a great place in Red Bank for them and I also have two for sale in the wedding classifieds that might be your right size. Also- what kind of gown are you wearing? Mine was kinda fitted in the waist and I ended up buying two long lines and not wearing either because it showed through the fabric too much.

Frederick's of Hollywood in Jersey City carries longline bras that are seamless.  They are part of their wedding essentials line.  Everyone I know who has worn one on their wedding day has loved it.  You can also order online.

What works for one of us is not necessarily going to work for you.  I would HIGHLY recommend going to a specialty bra shop and getting fitted and matched with proper bras for your shape.  I used to go to Victoria's Secret for most of my bras, but first of all the bras are not good quality at all, and secondly, they are not good fitters.  I got fitted there several times and the number that they gave me apparently isn't right.  I have friends who have trickier sizes that were given very, very wrong numbers by VS.  For instance, I have one friend who was told she is a 36DD -- which is a size VS carries.  When she went to a specialty shop, she was fitted as an H (I think 32H?).  Of course VS isn't going to declare her a size they don't sell, so she was wearing a size that yes she could fit into but that wasn't doing anything at all for her body.  She said that changing to the right size made a huge difference in support and her appearance.  When I shopped at VS, I got lots of "Oh, we're out of 34B [which was not my right size anyway]?  Get a 36A -- it's the same thing."   No it isn't.  Not at all.  The right bra can make you look thinner and taller.  Even a small change for me (my band size was one size smaller than VS said) made a huge difference.

I typically go to Linda's Bra Salon on the Upper East Side and highly recommend it, but I know it isn't convenient to most of you.  There are shops like it in Ridgewood and Morristown though, and probably more in NJ that I don't know about.

I got a Goddess Bridal bustier from World of Bras in Wyckoff. They fitted me and the bustier fit me perfectly. However, they charged me $100 and I later found the same exact bra online for $50 bucks.... But whatevs, what's done is done and I got the right size. The Goddess bra is really gorgeous and has nice boning however it ends at the waist. I thought about maybe wearing high waisted spanx shorts underneath to suck everything in and leave me smooth. If you can't find one that goes all the way to your hip (or decide that it's just not comfortable), maybe you could do that. Good luck!

You can try David's Bridal.  When I was shopping for my wedding gown they had me try it on with that type of bra.  I believe the one I tried on stopped at the belly button (not sure).  However, they may have the longer ones too.

Good luck if you have not already found it yet :)
