NWR - Need decor opinions

I'm trying to figure out what to do in our master bathroom.  Right now, it has a really ugly wall paper and it needs to go!

Our cabinets are a dark chocolate brown with silver hardware.  Our countertops are a cream color and we will be installing new brushed nickle faucets.  We will also be laying down a neutral tile in the next few weeks (see pic).

I'm hoping a fresh coat of paint will hide the ugly and modernize the space.  With shower, bath tub, window, doorways, and cabinets, we really don't have a lot of wall space.  I am torn between doing a stencil or a strip but I'm not sure which would look best on the limited amount of walls.

Here is our tile (this isn't our bathroom):

And these are the two styles I'm considering for the walls (the colors shown are pretty close to what I'd use):

  • I think the horizontal stripe will open up the room a lot more than the stencil.  It also looks much more modern (IMO).
  • I love the stencil, but I think it would work better with a nonpatterned, solid tile. Yours looks like it's a marbled, right? So I say stripes. :)

  • I  think the stencil will be better because bathrooms are alot smaller than a bedroom and I think that it would be really busy in the bathroom.

  • I think the stripe would work better, but thats because a friend on mine on facebook recently got her parents to repaint their bathroom this way and I loved it! Here's a link... clicky!

  • Seems to me like there's not enough wall space for such large stripes?  To me, what makes it look so good in the bedroom picture is the fact that its a huge wall and you can see the stripes in their entirety.

<div>That's what I was thinking and worried about.  We really don't have much wall space because the entry way is double doors and on that same wall, there are cabinets with a large mirror, then on another wall, there's the tub, the stand up shower and a window above the tub, then on another wall, there are more cabinets with a mirror and the last wall has a door way.  There isn't one full wall in the entire room.</div><div>

  • I vote the stencil...when we redo ours I'm going to texturize the walls with some putty and do a simple creamy yellow/gold color glaze to bring it out. We did it in a small bedroom of an apartment I use to live in and it was great for the small space! You should google that!
