When I was a kid, goofing off near pools (pushing people in, diving into the shallow end, etc.) was verboten. I had horror stories like this drilled into me - I remember being about 7 years old and being shown a story about a promising young athlete who did a flip into the pool and knocked his head on the edge and ended up paralyzed. So I was properly frightened into behaving.
Oh wow. That was just totally not what I expected but I am glad that she has her fiance still there and she seems to be happy. I didn't hear her say she forgave her friend that did it but I can understand if she didn't. They probably feel so guilty but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to get over it.
How awful for both the lady that was paralyzed and the friend who thought she was being funny.
We went on vacation earlier this year with FI's family, and his dad shoved him into the pool. It was fairly deep, he was fine, and apparently this is something they used to do when he was younger. I, however, am totally paranoid of hitting my head. I was shocked when it happened, and if someone did that to me, I would freak the F out.
I saw this over on SB earlier today, and the whole thing makes me so sad. I was feeling a little irritated at my husband before, but that story really put things into perspective.
Honestly, I don't even know how people go on when things like this happen to them. I am amazed at this woman's strength and resilience. And her FI standing by her. Wow.
She makes me feel like a major asshat for being so depressed about my broken toe and the "lack of mobility" it's cause me.
She's a strong woman. I'm glad to see her FI has stuck by her.

I love the fact that her FI stayed by her side through all of this. It is so very sad what happened to her, and I hope that this story educates more people on pool safety.

To be honest, I feel for her bridesmaids, too. They've got to be riddled with guilt.

In this story she says she forgave her. I didn't read the one Audgie posted.

Pool safety is serious business.
