White Mountains in October?

We are from Florida, but seriously crave a change of seasons, so in October, we are going to get married at a bed and breakfast in the White Mountains. I have no idea what to expect since I've never been there.  Anyone have any experiences? Anyone also getting married in the White Mountains?

There's a saying up here about New England weather..... if you don't like it, wait a minute!

I love the mountains!! I've spent a lot of time camping in Gorham and Berlin. Where will you be staying?

We are staying in Hart's Location...near Bartlett.
I'm not sure what to expect, but I know it's going be the best ever. :D
I just hope the weather lets us have an outdoor ceremony! What do you think the chances are?

We are getting married in Southern NH in September, but are honeymooning in the White Mountains (Lincoln) in October. The weather will be cool, but the foliage is amazing! There are TONS of things to do, so research online and have fun!

Getting married Oct 1 at the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, with a great view of the Presidentials. Planning for an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour on their big grand porch. Last Oct 1 was rainy and miserable, but it could be beautiful, sunny, cooler, mountains could even have a little snow!

A couple of things to consider. Traffic on the Kancamangus Highway can be a nightmare on foliage weekends. Avoid it by taking other routes! Its beautiful, but you don't want guests getting stuck in traffic.

Make sure your guests book EARLY for rooms. Foliage weekends are usually booked. I sent out save the dates Jan 1 and suggested people book even that far in advance!

We had trouble finding a rehearsal dinner restaurant - the selections are few, and restaurants are fairly small to accomodate a big group. If you look in North Conway, you shouldn't have a problem finding something!

Bring a light jacket, mittens, and short sleeves.  You never really can plan for NE weather.  Make sure to bring your camera, even if the foliage isn't peak the area is gorgeous.  If you're coming in early October, Hart's Location will be in prime foliage.  If you're coming later in the month the leaves will all be turned and fallen but the mountians and lakes are still beautiful.

I agree with PP that you should book asap and have your guests do the same.  If you're looking for things to do or have your guests enjoy, apple picking is a tradition that's fun and lends to great photos.  If you're travelling back to Florida and don't want to bring your apples donate them to a food pantry or nursing home -they'll make good use of them.

If you're a hiker then bring your boots since there are a variety of mountains from leisure walks to rigorous overnight hikes.

GL and I hope you love the area as much as I do!
