April or August wedding???

Hi everyone,

I'm new to theknot.com but I absolutely love it! I was hoping some of you could help me with a dilemma.....My fiance and I are getting married at a specific venue that only has 4 available dates open in 2011. Three are weekends in April and one is a weekend at the end of August. He wants August, I would prefer April but we just can't decide. Just out of curiousity, would you choose to have your wedding in April or August? For those that are already married, or may be getting married in either of these months, what are the pros and cons that helped you make your decision? Thanks for any advice!!!

August is one of my favorite months, so I would pick August. I don't really have any other reasonings than this. I think is a decision that only you and your FI can make.

Where do you live? I live in Northern Ohio and even way up here it is too hot in August. 95% of the reason we wanted a fall wedding was because of the weather. We were married outside, so the temperature was more important to us than other couples. You still will likely be outside a fair amount with pictures and travel even if you have an indoor event.

My husband wanted black tuxes and I wanted a big gown. Being a sweaty bride and groom didn't appeal to us.

3/4 of a year may be a little less time than average to plan a wedding, but that should still be plenty of time to get everything in order. I would pick April, no doubt about it.

I wanted April - I love spring and flowers. My venue didn't offer a specific thing we wanted until May... so, we went to May.

August is hot, muggy and buggy for most places in the Northeast. If you live around here, I'd go with April.

I would also consider the weather. And because I'm not a fan of being hot and miserable, I'd go with April.

i would think about where you are and what type of wedding you are having. I'm a July bride-to-be, so I like the summer. But, we were open to anything from the end of April - beginning of August.
Are you planning to have all/part of your wedding outside? If you are, is it normally rainy or cold in April? If so, you probably shouldn't do it. If you are planning outdoor and August is usually super hot, you may want to reconsider that.

Another thing, does your venue provide discounts for April? I know a lot of places here offered discounted rates for April because it is not prime season. You may want to consider that, even if your venue doesn't give discounts, some of your other vendors might.

We wanted to get married in March (got engaged in March) but because of Lent we couldnt so we moved it to April. Weather wise we didnt want super heat or snow. Rain is not a big deal to us. I love the flower selections, it's the start of baseball season, and it worked out the best for our families.

Are many of your guests in school or teachers? Are there important people who are? If so August is probably going to be better for them.

Many of our friends are in school of some kind, we planned a summer wedding so they could be there.

I voted August, but that's because we're getting married in August. It works for us because we are both teachers. I was also wondering where you live though...

I live in Canada...so August is also crazy hot (which I hate!). But April can be a little unpredictable. We are not having an outdoor wedding though so I'm really not too worried about the weather...and there is a good chance it could be typical spring, with pretty flowers and no bugs

I picked April for the weather. August is pretty roasty-toasty here in Sacramento...wouldn't want to sweat through my dress. But really think about the things that are important to you (time to plan, weather, ease for guests etc) and that should help you pick. If it gets real hot where you live remind you FI that he'll be wearing a tux/suit...he may change his mind.

That's a tough call. You said you are having an indoor wedding, but you might still have outdoor pictures and things like that. Personally I'd vote for April, but I hate heat and would avoid it at all costs.

We got married in April. We wanted an outdoor wedding, so that was the perfect month. Not too hot like in May through September, avoid the rain every day like in June and July. But it depends on where you are for that.

August is an awful time for weddings. It is hot & you don't want everyone to feel nor look like drowned rats. Only thing with an April wedding is that the pools in most places won't be open for your honeymoon. They don't usually open til Memorial Day, just something to think about!!

I think April is much better.. August can be oppressive anywhere and I personally wouldn't want to have to deal with heat/humidity (even though the ceremony is not outside).

If it weren't for the fact that I wanted an outdoor wedding in the PNW, I would have picked April. For one thing, a lot of stuff from the photographer to maybe the venue will have discounts. I don't really see the point in a summer wedding unless it's going to be outdoors- and even then, if you live in a hot area you still might be better off with April than August.

I would pick April but I am a little biased - I got married in April. My issue is that I always associate August with insane heat and even if you are not getting married outside, you might still want pictures outside and would you really want to be outside with your nice hair/makeup/dress in that crazy heat? Just a thought...but ultimately, it comes down to what will work best for you, your FI, and your family.

Do you plan on taking a honeymoon? If so, depending are where you wanted to go might help decide what month you should have your wedding. Especially if you wanted your honeymoon to immediately follow.

If it's not outdoors, I'd pick April. And that's coming from someone who plans to get married in August/September.

The reasons are:
1) Discounts on vendors. This cannot be overstated enough!
2) Weather - even if it's cold, people can bundle up on their way to the wedding. If it's too hot, there's no way to keep cool on the way there.
3) You get to be married sooner, which means less pre-wedding drama (or at least not as dragged out).
4) Pretty flowers sound a lot nicer than hot and humid.

It's difficult to choose on this one. April can be very rainy, and August can be very hot. You should decide which you would rather have. If you want an outdoor wedding August would give you less chance of rain, however your guests might have one nasty sun burn.

Personally, I'd go with August, because I love summer. Just stay cool!

i think it totally depends on where you are and if it's indoor or outdoor. i'm in tx, so an outdoor wedding in august is just DUMB. but up north, that might be fine. we had a similar debate over may vs september, so i googled the weather records for our town and looked at the historical info on those months. we'd been leaning toward may until we discovered that it was WAY more likely to rain in may than in september. since we wanted outdoors, that was that!

Well, DH and I are both Christians and almost all of our friends are too - so April 2011 would be out for us. Easter isn't until April 24, so if we picked one of the Saturdays in April few of our friends and relatives would be able to come to a big blowout party in the middle of Lent - the most serious and somber period in the Christian religious year.

So we'd choose August. This would also be a good choice for the reason Katy stated: we're teachers and most of our friends are teachers - and April is a CRAZY month in school, and we couldn't take a HM then either. In August, we're not stressed because we've been on break, our teacher friends can come, and we can go on a nice HM after our wedding - and we can go on an anni trip then each year.

I'm an August Girl... I really like the Heat! We are also getting married outdoors on a beach in Victoria Canada. So April is windy, rainy, and chilly in Victoria. We were opting for September, but realised we have children attending so we wanted to make sure they could come (School).
