Re: Dress cleaning/steaming?

  • as simple as it sounds, I'm going to my local cleaners.  my parents have been using them since I was in middle school, they would trust them with their life.  so I guess I can trust them with my wedding dress.

  • I posted a reply to someone else in the Vintage Dress Cleaning thread above this one, but I will paste it below in case you didn't see it!
I am going to pick up my dress soon but they have been sending email updates throughout the cleaning process and it sounds like it came out great (dress is now bright white, the original color instead of yellowed ivory when I dropped it off).  I think they are worth the drive!

    See below:
I had the same problem but I have a very expensive Priscilla of Boston sample that I did not want to take to just any dry cleaner. I did a bunch of research and found a place called Siena Dry Cleaners in Giddings, TX, about 2 hours west of Houston, 1 hour east of Austin. They are certified by the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists to do gown cleaning and preservation; there are none in Houston, only Dallas, San Antonio and Giddings. I called the main number for the Association and asked them about this particular cleaner and they assured me they met their standards and that there company is where Priscilla of Boston was referring their brides (I of course lost the piece of paper but I do think this was the one).
Anyway, the couple who owns Siena Dry Cleaners, Amy and Mike, are very willing to discuss thigns over the phone, just ask for one of them. I brought my dress to them and was very impressed with their friendly manner, honesty about what they could do and willingness to keep me updated through the cleaning process. They seem reasonably priced as well (range is ~$100-150). Just make sure to ask them what hours they are there in the store and ask for them when you bring the dress in. The girl at the front seemed blase about it all like I could just drop it off with her but I said I wanted to speak to Mike or Amy and they both came out and were fabulous; I think the girl was just bored or something. Anyway, my dress is still in the cleaning process but Amy emailed me that the first step went well, so now I am just crossing my fingers that everything turns out well.
I really did not find anything close to it in Houston. Also, Amy said that she travels to Houston frequently and could meet me in Houston when the dress is ready but the drive is really not that big of a deal in my opinion!
Hope that helps, best of uck!
