Early 90's Dress For Me; What For My Bridesmaids?

Dear Knot Community,

I fell in love with a wedding dress that's probably from the early 90's.  (I think the sleeves are too subtle for it to be from the 80's.)  I felt impulsive and bought it.

Now comes the question:  What on earth do my 3 bridesmaids wear?  I can't put them in dresses like the ones in this photo.

Cost Constraints:
1st choice:  at least some of them spend nothing.  I'm okay w/ mismatches and hope they can find something awesome in their closets.
2nd choice:  they all have to buy something.  Goal=under $100, max=$150+.

Here're photos of my dress (click on the words by the numbers):

3. Train

I'm eager to hear your brainstorms.  I appreciate it a lot.

  • I think simple would be best ... I would choose maybe a simple cocktail dress or a-line floor-length dress in a subtle, solid color.

Or maybe ask them to wear a plain black cocktail dress or evening gown that they can find at a place of their liking.

That dress looks very nice on you :) I admit I was thinking the worst before I opened the photos, lol, but that dress is very flattering.

  • I think the BM dresses would need to be formal, but certainly wouldn't have to be dated.  I would think any long formal dress would complement it.

I don't think the dress is dated at all--I quite like it :)  I was thinking poofy sleeves and butt bows.  It's very classic.

  • I love your dress!  I really think anything would go with that.  What about choosing a colour and fabric and let the maids decide on a style that would suit each of them?  I'm thinking black cocktail dresses or some such.
  • I found a mid-nineties veil to go with.  Just the right length; looks great on me.  Hooray!

(By the way, I ended up being a cheapskate and going with bridesmaids dresses that really don't quite match.  Spaghetti-strap pale-kinda-silvery gold color w/ beaded diagonal lines.  Off the rack from Marshall's.  Oh well.  I have a pretty veil!)
