Cookie Table

So my mom and aunts have offered to help me do a cookie table at the wedding.  The problem is that my family is from Ohio and no one in my family has ever had a cookie table at their wedding before.  I know I can freeze some cookies but do some cookies freeze better than others?  Any cookies I absolutely can't freeze?  Any other cookie table advice ya'll have would be great

    Hello there!  We had 100 dozen cookies for our wedding so I have some experience with this, haha.  

    We started baking about 2 months before the wedding; froze most.  The ones we didn't freeze were ones like ladylocks (or any with a filling of some sort).   We actually bought our ladylocks from a bakery in the Strip because they are so time-consuming to make.  You can easily freeze cookies that had a firm batter.. usually the more delicate ones won't freeze as well.

    When freezing, be sure to wrap them in a large zliplock/plastic wrap/foil very tightly and put them in a sealed container (rubbermaid or tupperware of some sort) - you want to try to get as much air out as possible... this will help keep them pretty fresh.

    Christine, thanks for posting this. I had a similar question as my side of family is all from Michigan/Ohio. Funny that a cookie table is a Western Pa thing.

    You can freeze Ladylocks! My family has an amazing ladylock recipe and we usually make 200 or so in one day- its a LOT of work but we make a day of it and its fun. We make them about a month before Christmas and then freeze them until then. I plan on doing that for my wedding too!

    We had maybe 180 at the wedding.  We did not expect to have that many cookies, though!  This one lady my mom works with said she was going to make cookies for us.. we expected a few dozen and she made 250 cookies.. LOL.

    I would definitely provide some kind of bag or take out box for guests to take cookies home wiht them.  You can find cute bags with your wedding date on them, boxes too!  Yes, it is definately a western PA thing.

    I am an NE Ohio girl having a cookie table!  It's a western PA and Eastern Ohio thing! :)  In response to freezing the cookies, I have spent years baking cookies with my mom ahead of time for holidays, and she always baked quite a variety.  I don't remember having ANY problems with any of the cookies after they had been frozen.  I can't think of many cookies that would perish in the freezer except for those that have whipped cream filling.  There are different types of cream fillings also.  For example the filling in clothespin cookies and cannoli is often NOT whipped cream and is therefore freezable.  It's the whipped cream that will ruin in the freezer, so just be careful of that and you should be fine!  Happy Planning!!
