Mexico?

What were your expereinces with mexico?  Good bad, other?

Re: Mexico?

  • We have been to Cancun/Riviera Maya 4 times in the last 2 years and have LOVED every visit. We have stayed at various Palace Resorts and have received outstanding service. We have done several excursions and every time we have gone off property we have always had great experiences. We were thinking of going to PuntaCana this December, but after seeing how much more the airfare is, we may just go back to Mexico.

  • Cancun back in March. Loved it.
  • Mexico is an amazing place. We are leaving again Wed. it will be my 10th time.
I rec. the Playa del Carmen area if you are planning on a honeymoon. There are many adults only hotels that I would rec. to you.

  • Great thanks everyone!!! LOVE it, now which resorts do you like??  Dislike?  and what excursions are offered?
  • I've been to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Vallarta (3x to PV- we got married there!). It really depends what you're looking for. IMO, Cancun is perfect if you're a social butterfly and want to go out drinking and dancing all the time, Playa is great for a more relaxed atmosphere with beautiful beach, and PV is for adventure, like zip-lining or going up in the mountains, and less for the beach, which is pretty because the mountains are in the background, but the water is nothing like the Caribbean.
  • Playa del Carmen and Cozumel have some great resorts, although there are more in the PC area than Cozumel.  We are staying at Secrets, but I have heard good things about the Excellence resorts and the Palace resorts.  There is so much to do in this area too--you can easily get to Cancun for a day, or Cozumel (by ferry).  The Mayan Ruins in Tulum are awesome, and this area of Mexico is known for their great snorkeling and scuba diving!  and talk about delicious food and drinks...  :)
  • Secrets Maroma in Riviera Maya adult-only all-inclusive resort. definately check it out!!
  • I have never been, either, but we're going there for our HM! :)

Reviera Maya - all inclusive adults-only resort: El Dorado. They supposedly have great cuisine, as well as beautiful beaches. They also have a honeymoon package too, which I can't wait to enjoy!

  • Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya was awesome!  Twice!
  • I know many people that love Mexico ,  and you should definitely go where you want to go.

BUT  -  I had a terrible experience there.  I went to Cancun a few years ago and got a parasite.  The resort was high end,  but I got sick anyway.  I will never go back to Mexico ever again,  in  fear that I will get sick again.  I personally would rather go to a place where I now I can eat and drink whatever I want - with out fear of water or ice.
  • I have been to Mexico a few times:

Puerto Vallarta (sp?): Loved it, but beaches are not carribbean blue
    Cozumel: Loved it
Cancun: Didn't like it. Too americanized and party atmosphere for me

We are going to Playa Mjueres for our Honeymoon to the Excellence resort. It's about 30min north of Cancun but more quiet. I've heard amazing things from people that have been there!

I disagree. We dont ever go out drinking or dancing and love it there. we find it to be pretty peaceful really.

"I will never go back to Mexico ever again,  in  fear that I will get sick again.  I personally would rather go to a place where I now I can eat and drink whatever I want - with out fear of water or ice."
the resorts use filtration systems for the ice. you didn't get sick from that. if you didn't drink the water then you got sick from something else. probably from eating foods you weren't used to. but don't blame mexico-food illnesses happen everywhere.

  • I looove Mexico...
Where you go in Mexico depends on your vacation style.  Personally I would never go to Cancun again.  I prefer the Mayan Riviera, stayed at the Barcelo chain last time and LOOOOVED it!  It was our favorite vacation yet (we travel often).  I would recommend the Barcelo Maya Palace or the Barcelo Maya Tropical/Colonial.

    Have fun :)
  •  I would definitely recommend Secrets Silversands. It’s is a very modern, adult’s only all-inclusive resort located in the Riviera Maya. It would honestly be the perfect place for you and your future hubby. The resort offers numerous activities and boasts an awesome beach. The spa is also absolutely amazing. I can guarantee that the staff will also pamper you beyond belief and make your trip extra special. I hope you check Secrets out. You won’t regret it, I promise!
  • We have stayed at Dreams in Puerto Vallarta 2 times and LOVED.  But isn't there a travel advisory against going to Mexico right now??  I need to plan our Nov honeymoon and have been under the impression that Mexico is out of the question.
    Yay or nay?
  • Love Mexico...

  • Hi Ladies,

I live in Monterrey Mexico and for those of you who are concerned with the situation of insecurity in Mexico right now, let me tell you this,

It's true that there is more insecurity in Mexico than before (because of the drug cartels), but only in some cities (mostly in the northern border) TOURIST DESTINATIONS ARE COMPLETELY SAFE.

I know many Mexicans and Americans who have traveled to Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos in the past months (including my parents) and they had a wonderful time there. Zero violence or problems.

If you're still hesitant about coming to Mexico, talk to your travel agent or to someone who has visited Mexico this year, so they can give you accurate information.

Thanks for reading this! I wish you all the perfect honeymoon :)

  • Thank you for the info!!  I have been searching the boards and haven't heard this discussed, so it is much appreciated :)
  • We really want to go to Mexico, but are concerned.  A friend of ours saw an article recently that even a tourist city was hit (Acapulco) and some tourists were pulled out of their hotel.  We are still considering it, possibly Los Cabos.
