Children at Wedding

Would it be wrong to tell someone they can bring their 14 month old to the wedding then tell them they can't.  I really don't want children at the wedding.  None were invited other than the 2 in the bridal party.  I think she caught me in a weak moment and now I'm kicking myself.  Is it really the end of the world to have a baby at the reception?

It would be wrong to univite the baby after you already said he could come.

Why would having a baby there ruin the reception?  He will eat some food, walk around a bit, many guests will chat with the parents, and then he'll probably fall asleep.  None of this will affect you in the slightest.
  • There is no way you will notice, and they will likely go home early. Our four year old flower girls left after an hour at the reception. They weren't acting up, their parents just sent them with Grandma to go home.

This.  A 14 month old child will not ruin your wedding day.

  • Renigging is never cool. Just let her bring the kid.

Personally I would never tell anyone to not bring children. FI and I agreed on setting up a fun kids table with treats and stuff that will amuse them. Not everyone can find a babysitter so we don't want to leave anyone out.

As for uninviting...well would you uninvite a friend...a family member? No, so it would be a bad idea to uninvite your friend's/family's child.

  • Thank you all for the words of wisdom.  Actually, I'm the bride's mother and the bride told me to leave it alone.  She's not worried about the baby being there.  I'm just on my nerves about everything these days.  Thanks again for setting me straight.

They will when they start crying in the middle of your first dance or some other important thing. I would not want a baby at my wedding or any other small child for that matter.
