NWR: RCIA Question

Hello,

I feel silly asking this but it's really bothering me. My H and I are both in RCIA journey and have class tonight and I was just wondering what type of community service you've done.

The Church gave us suggestions to help in the kitchen (we sell food after Mass on Sundays) but the space to do service here is limited and if I sign up now, I'm afraid I won't be able to complete my hours on time.

The last time I did community service, I was in HS and we would tutor at Elementary schools but I'm really stuck since our local libraries, animal shelters close at 5pm and I work 8-5pm.

    I always did community service at animal shelters.  You might be able to help out on weekends, especially since that is when they are busiest.

    You might also check out afterschool programs.  A lot of them run late into the evening.

    Oh Duh. I forgot about weekends. Thank you so much. The animal shelter it is. I emailed my instructor anyway to inform him, he'll probably have some suggestions for local places open late.

    Late to the party, since it looks like you have this figured out. I think volunteering is such a good way to really begin to look beyond yourself. Volunteering regularly is also a great way to get to know others. I'm a big fan of soup kitchens. Most will have weekend or evening volunteer opportunities. H and I both were regular volunteers at one for years. In fact, just last night, we visited with friends from there. As an added bonus, feeding the hungry and giving drink to the thirsty are corporal works of mercy. :)

    i had to do community service once and i opted to vounteer at hte local library as i love books.

    Thank you so much Ladies. I really love the "feed the hungry" idea. I seriously completely forgot about weekends. haha. I'm free to do these things on Saturday.
