Honeymoons

Hey ladies-
How did you book your HM?  Did you book online through the company?  Did you use a TA?  Did you use  a website like orbitz?

I'm trying to book a mini-moon right now and trying to decide the best way to do it.

TIA

Re: Honeymoons

  • FI has been to where we're staying before so we booked straight with them
  • We booked everything through AAA. I did a lot of research beforehand and hunted for deals, but in the end it was easier and way cheaper to just go through AAA.

However every other vacation I have ever planned I just booked myself, usually directly through the hotel/airline websites and not something like Orbitz. I've booked a lot of corporate travel and if there is a problem or you need to cancel, it's always so much easier to make changes if you made the booking through the actual hotel or airline. One vacation we ended up having to cancel because our flight was canceled and we couldn't get on to the next one for 3 days (aka, the day before we were supposed to return). Because I had booked everything through the actual company, it was a lot easier to get our refund.

If you do decide to do Orbitz, etc, absolutely get trip cancellation insurance. It's worth the $100 or so.

  • We used Travelocity for the flights and Orbitz for the hotel
  • We are doing it all through local vendors. Any time we mention its our honeymoon these amazing deals pop up!

  • We did it through AAA.  We figured since we are going from CT to San Diego to Oahu to Maui then back to CT it was easiest to have someone figure out our flights and timing.  We also purchased the trip insurance.  We are planning on going tomorrow to book our excursions, however, our TA hasn't been the most responsive person since we booked our trip so we will see.
  • I am using Expedia to research stuff and prices. I will probably book with the hotel direct.

I work at a hotel and last summer we had so many issues with third parties messing up reservations. Makes me nervous!

  • We did ours through AAA. My family does all our vacations through the same agent. She gets us some great deals!

  • All of the AAA rec's surprise me. FMIL actually is a AAA Travel Agent and the "deals" she's gotten us I've beat on Orbitz/Expedia almost every time. Maybe you just have better agents =)

  • The resort we got using my parents' timeshare, so that was direct through them. Jet Blue is the only airline that offers cheap flights and after comparing prices we booked through their website (the prices were the same across the board).

  • Fi's company has a TA that they use to get special rates so we were able to book through them and get the best price.  We checked most of the common websites, the resort itself and a second TA and his company offered the best deal.

  • We just looked online.  Found the cheapest flights booking with AirTran directly.   FI is looking pricing hotels online as well as contacting hotels directly to double check pricing.

  • Thanks ladies!  I don't have a TA...I'll check out AAA and perhaps american express too.

  • I checked out Bookit.com, applevacations.com, funjet.com, cheapcaribbean.com, and the resorts/airline's websites. We ended up using cheapcaribbean because it had the lowest prices.
  • We booked ours through a local Apple Vacations Travel Agent.
  • My aunt booked our resort through her timeshare site (she was generous enough to let us use it).  We will book the flights through expedia and the day trips through our resort.

  • I booked it directly with the resort.

  • We booked ours through hotwire.com and got the hotel, rental car and flight in a package deal. Saved a lot of money that way.
  • We booked our hotel right through the hotel and the flights I don't remember, either one of the websites like Orbitz or right through the airline.

Midge makes a good point that if you're looking to book a bunch of things it is usually cheaper through a website like hotwire because they bundle it all.
  • We booked our flights directly with the airline (came out cheaper than any of the travel sites), and booked 2 hotels- one through LuxuryLink.com, and the other directly through the hotel.

    We went through Expedia.

  • We ended up booking ours through Expedia.
I did a ton of research as well... we found the resort we wanted to go to (top rated.. best price) and then looked at various sites. Hotwire, Orbitz, AAA, hotesl.com, bookit.com, travelocity, direct through the resort and etc. I get 10% off hotels through expedia as a work benefit.. but we would have had to book the hotel and the flight separate and it was actually a better deal to combine them all through Expedia without my discount. I would look at various sites... some resorts were cheaper on different sites and etc.
  • We booked ours through EuropeanDestinations.com because they had the best prices. They have pretty decent reviews however they did have a few negatives but most of the negatives could be fixed if you just double check your reservations on your own ahead of time. I am pretty stoked. We just booked it last month and I am getting so excited! (I just booked my tickets for the Harry Potter Set Tour yesterday!)
