Who's writing their own vows?

Are any of you writing your own vows? If you are have you started working on them? I started working on my vows and it's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. Lol I have about 3 lines worth.

Re: Who's writing their own vows?

  • We are!

I have already started working on it. The hardest part for me is that there is so much I want to say. I am pretty good with words, so I'll look back again at it in about another month.

  • We are. The farthest I have gotten is finding vow ideas on Pinterest and making a board for them. I need to pick up the pace!

  • Nope. Not us. I am so emotional, FI suggested we take the option our officiant offered of just having to say I Do instead of repeating the traditional vows. I thought that was sweet of him, but there's no way. I want to say the vows, tears or not.

  • Start off by how you met for example. "I remember when i first saw you and the first thing i thought was..." Than you can say"I remember how i felt .." and you can describe it if you like. You can work yourself from there to your most touching moment you have with him and how he makes you a better person and how a whole life time is not nearly enough time to spend with that person. I am going to say my vows. I wont be writing mine. I'll be saying mine from the top of my head. But i will make four or five bullent points to work off of so i dont make it too long. If you say something from the heart it will really touch the person that its directed to. You can even say, i didnt write anything down because i wanted this to be as special and magical as this day has been for me so far. Smie. Take a deep breath. And get started. Speak your mind. Stick to your main topic. and dont make it too long.  Good luck. I hope this helped! ^_^

We're writing our own... seeing who can make the other cry more (I will win!).  I think they'll be funny/touching.  I kind of know what I'm saying already, I need to put it in writing though.
  • We are definitely writing our own. It's very important to us. We are going to be writing poems that express everything.

We haven't started writing them yet but we have talked about starting. I might start them closer to the wedding because I don't know if I could keep something that beautiful a secret until the wedding day!

  • Actually, we decided it was important for us to go the traditional route and *not* do our own vows... (I know, I'm in the minority..haha) ...We may end up doing something at the reception.. a quick few words for each other in addition to thanking our guests... but we wanted the church ceremony to be as traditional as possible..

  • We actually are saying the same vows to each other- we took several different vows and made our own (sorry about the weird font):

I Name take you Name to be my husband/wife, my friend, my love, and my lifelong companion, loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I eagerly anticipate the chance to grow together, getting to know the man/woman you will become and falling in love a little more every day.  I promise to share my life with you, to build our dreams together, to support you through times of trouble and to rejoice with you in times of happiness.  I promise to treat you with respect, love, and loyalty through all the trials and triumphs of our lives together.  This commitment is made in love, kept in faith, lived in hope, and made new everyday for the rest of our lives.

  • We are writing our own also, but I honestly haven't even started thinking about what they will be yet.

  • We are! When Fi said he wanted us to do it I started right then so in May 2011. I basically have everything on word doc and I go in add things and reread it once a week. I feel like I might be done by now though. It's not long probably one page. But I also want our ceremony short and sweet. Every time I read I start tear up it literally brings me back to when we first got together.

I like that one :)<div>FI and I are actually both too emotional when it comes to this stuff, lol, so we aren't writing our own either. We don't want to be choking up during the vows and messing up my make up all over again after the first look. lol</div>
