Memory of a loved one

My fiance's father passed away a long time ago but he still has a rough time with it.  He is worried he is going to have a hard time at our wedding so I would like to do something special for him such as maybe make something he can keep with him to let him know his father is with him.  Any suggestions or ideas.  I don't really want to do a candle lighting or display a picture I would rather it be something more personal that he can carry with him in his pocket or something.

Re: Memory of a loved one

  • Sorry for your FIs loss.  I had been looking for something similar for my FI in memory of his brother that recently passed, when I found Davids Bridal has little pins that you can clip on an undershirt or on a lapel.

    Good Luck looking.
  • Such a sad loss :(
My H lost his grandfather, to whom he was incredible close, a year before our wedding and while he was deployed. He was worried that any kind of memorial would be too sad for him to handle.
I surprised him, though. I found a picture of his grandparents at THEIR wedding, cutting  their wedding cake.. and we used that as our cake topper. H was elated, because it was a happy memory, and everyone saw it without being saddened by it.

  • I know you said you don't want to do this but what I'm doing with my dad is having an empty chair where he should be sitting with an ivory rose to honor him.  I'm also having a "remeberance ceremony" added into the ceremony where they honor all the people who could not be here today.  I asked my officiant to say something about how he's proud of me and looking down on me and smiling.  I also put a little something (a quote) in the programs for it.  I like the little lapel idea.  Maybe he (or his mom or someone close) has something of his father's that he can wear or use the day of?  Kinda like a something old for the groom

Maybe talk to his mom and see if she has a handkerchief, or cufflinks, or something of his dad's he could wear? Or something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Colibri-Pocket-Antique-Engravable-PWS096009J/dp/B000R90K9U/ref=pd_sim_sbs_misc_2 with a picture of them?
