QOTD 6/25

How are you having your reception meal served?  Family Style? Buffet?  Hors d'oeuvres only?

We had a plated salad for everyone followed by a serve-yourself style buffet.  It worked out really well this way.

Ha! Funny that this is the question.  FI and I were just talking about this last night.  I really want to do plated, and he really wants to do buffet.  I hope we end up with plated...I have to say though, I am not looking forward to having to make escort cards with everyone's choices on them.  I have a feeling I would mess them up and people would get the wrong things!

I really dont want to worry about all of that stuff. We are just going the buffet route except the bridal party gets first dibbs on the buffet, then everyone else is free to grab a plate. I dont want the extra work of doing place cards and menu cards etc etc.

Then by the time most of them wait in a short line and get back to thier seats we can start toasts and speechs and then dances. Will give everyone something to watch while their eating.

    Im getting sooo excited!!!

Salad and soup are served, then the dinner is buffet style.

We also did the salad served at the table followed by a buffet for the main course.  But it was a manned buffet where they served up whatever you wanted for you.  :)

We are doing plated.  I personally have a weird thing about eating off buffet's, I just can't do it.  And FI really wanted plated.  And I am very stressed about the seating!

Has anyone ever been to a Family Style dinner at a wedding reception before? I've heard those are a new trend. That's one of the dinner options we have to choose from.... I'm not sure how to feel about that yet.... thoughts?

Ally, I have been to one, I really liked it!  I asked if we could do it at our venue, and they said no :(  I liked it a lot better than the traditional buffet because it went by sooo much faster.  No waiting in line, waiting for tables to be called to get food, etc.  I recommend it!!

Awesome - good to hear! :) Was there a lot of food at each table, and were there multiple entree options or just one? I'm really curious how this works...

We are doing it family style because I think we are pretty much having a thanksgiving dinner for our meal...we are having a very fall themed wedding...and just to go with the theme of things and the atmosphere...to make it feel really homey! lol  I have been to another wedding where it was family style and I loved it!!  There will be hors d'oeuvres that they can mingle and graze over until we are done with pictures...that they can serve themselves to, but the main meal will be family style.

The one I went to was in Frankenmuth, MI at the Bavarian Inn.  I believe they only had one main entree (chicken) and then had bowls of green beans, potatoes, noodles, rolls etc to pass around the table.  There was a lot of food on each table, and the wait staff brought more if you ran out.
