Ok, so one of the biggest and most difficult decisions we've had to make about our wedding is WHERE we are going to get married, and i'm not just talking venue. It's been a challenge because I am from MI originally and I am still pretty close to my family. And trust me on this, weddings are a BIG DEAL! All of the aunts, uncles, cousins, etc love to celebrate, and when I got married, it was a no brainer that my family was going to celebrate with me. Well, I moved to wyoming a few years ago for school and I've pretty much settled here. But there is no way that my very large family could make it out here for a wedding. It just costs wayy too much.
Obvisouly wtih only considering this, I would just have the wedding in MI...but here's the twist. FI's family lives in New Mexico, and there is no way his family could make it out to MI for the wedding because its way too far away.
So after a whole lot of stress and a whole lot of conversations with our parents, we have came to a decision. We are going to have the ceremony here in wyoming with a resturant reception immediatly after, and then later that week we are going to have a big reception with dancing, dinner, etc in michigan so that my family can celebrate with us. In addition, we are also plannig on doing a unity sand ceremony in michigan before the reception and i'm trying to talk FI into reading something special to eachother in front of family durring that. That way they can still be a part of us joining our individual lives as one.
I know there is a lot of disrespect for brides that talk about having "two weddings" but I really can't think of another way to make sure that all of those important to us get to participate and celebrate with us...any advice?
Re: Location difficulties...think we made a compromise
Do you have a date set yet?
@ mrsbunyip FI is not as close to his family as I am to mine, and we talked about that as well. Since the ceremony is going to be here in wyomig, his immediate family is going to drive up since its only 7 hours or so away (distances are measured very differently out here i've noticed) He told me its very unlikely that many more people would show up even if we did have the wedding in NM, so we think his parents are hosting a small backyard bbq in our honor (at least that's what he tells me when i keep bugging him about how we're going to include his family lol)
I think what you and your FI have come up with is a really fair compromise and now you have one of your biggest decisions makers made.. YAY!
[QUOTE]@ littlemoments lol i've noticed lots of us michiganders on this board which is kind of exciting I'm from the huron county area but moved to the flint area when i was in middle school...my dad lives in bay city @ mrsbunyip FI is not as close to his family as I am to mine, and we talked about that as well.
