April 2012 Weddings

Caterer Vent

Ok so my caterer is wonderful, very nice, great prices, etc. However she is not good about returning emails!!!!! This drives me NUTS. I feel that it is very unprofessional.

We booked with her over a year in advance, January 2011, and we paid a deposit/venue fee at that time. You would think after that point, since we've proven we are serious by paying her, she would have the decency to reply to my emails!!!!

I have sent her a few, asking random questions about set up, alcohol prices, etc. Finally she replied to me over the summer and we maaged to meet up at talk over some more things. That was in June. Haven't heard from her since, but NBD. Nothing really to talk about.

Well, after the first of the year, I emailed her again. I waited until after the holidays because I knew she'd be busy both with her business and her personal life. I wrote her saying just checking in, because we need to confirm food prices. She quoted us around $15/person, but we never decided on a set amount since we were booking so far in advance and we'd like to get that nailed down now! I also need to know when SHE needs to know what we're doing about alcohol, as well as about set up the day of, using escort cards, and a few other random questions.

I guess I'm just irritated because I feel like she doesn't take me seriously or something. Or maybe she thinks I'm paranoid and we have enough time to figure this all out, which we do, but I just HATE waiting until the last minute to know/do things. She gets emails on her phone and you would think if she changed her email she would have told me...

If I don't hear back from her by the middle of February (2months out!) I'm calling the country club and getting her number, which I realize now is something I should have asked for previously, but whatevers.

Re: Caterer Vent

  • Yeah...even if you do have time to work out the details, it would be good for her to shoot you a quick note back to let you know that she doesn't need the information until X time.  I'm sure she's conscientious of what she needs to do when but understandable that the lack of communication is nerve wracking!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I have had the same problem with most of my vendors not returning emails.  It is really irritating!  They probably just think I am doing everything way too early (this was over the summer).

  • That sucks.  My caterer isn't the best about returning emails or phone calls right away, but she does eventually.  I can't stand waiting till the last minute either for stuff like that, especially since the days right before the wedding will be crazy enough as is!

  • It drives me crazy when people don't respond to emails! I'm sure she has time to update her facebook status daily lol.

  • Yeah I know she is probably busy, and maybe she gets the emails and then forgets to reply, but still. I just feel like when you're in this business, you need to be available and responsive. I'm having like worst case scenario fears, like what if she's gone out of business or something! That's not likely the case, but still.

  • I feel your frustration.  We had a similar issue with DD #1, and will be using the same caterer for DD #2. Generally I think vendors just think we're a bunch of flaky brides and they will get back to us when it's a reasonable time to talk to us! But even if that were the case, they could at least shoot us an email saying they are swamped right now, but I'll get back in touch with you at xyz time!

Did you have a tasting with them?  If not, I would get her phone number and call stating that you would like to set up a tasting appointment to finalize the menu and prices by early February so that you can plan your budget accordingly.

We want to meet with our caterer later this month....and with ours, if she doesn't return emails or phone calls....I know where she lives and will show up on her doorstep!!  LOL
