June 2012 Weddings

Splurges?

What are some things that you gals are splurging oney on? Either Ceremony or Reception? Not necessarily on services like a videographer or a certain venue but more little things that aren't a must have in a wedding but you splurged on bc it was a cute addition.

Re: Splurges?

  • our bag piper. We didn't have to have one but I wanted to suprise our guests and FI and I love the bag pipes.

  • We aren't splurging on anything. Honestly, the entire wedding is a freaking splurge. Same with the honeymoon.
    Oh well, almost here!

  • We are splurging on the cake and our honeymoon. I have a favorite baker in the city which can be on the expensive side but I'm in love with their stuff. We were willing to go with a way less expensive option but my parents said they would pay for the cake and to get what I really wanted.

As for the honeymoon, travel is really important to both FI and I. We love to travel and experience different cultures and regions. In order to splurge though we are using loyalty reward programs on airfare and most of our hotels.

Our two main splurges are hiring a wedding planner and the HM. I sort of regret hiring the wedding planner, mostly because I could have just done it myself, and for many weeks she just created more stress rather than less. I don't regret the HM though, 3 weeks is indulgent but it's the one time in my working life I'll be able to convince myself to take that much time off.

  • Our main splurge is the honeymoon - it's within our budget, but definitely more than we would spend normally.  We're so excited for it!!

  • We didn't really splurge on little things. We splurged on our photographer.
  • edited May 2012
We splurged on a photobooth since we didn't want a videographer.

We really, really splurged on our honeymoon (Almost 2 weeks in Thailand).  It was on both of our bucketlists so we thought, why not cross it off as we become husband and wife.

Our DJ was more expensive than most, but it will be worth it.

...and my shoes (but my parents bought those). Laughing

  • Our honeymoon is by far our biggest splurge.  We got really good deals on everything else I think.

  • The entire thing is a splurge really but my personal one is my shoes. I paid for them myself and i might have overdone it just a bit but they're beautiful
  • Nothing! Our entire wedding is on a strict budget and we are compromising on lots of stuff, but it's because we both have debt and think it's more important to pay that down than to splurge on our wedding.

  • Our splurge is the limo.  Defintely not needed but we both wanted it :)
  • String Trio, Vocalist, Kid Bags and videographer.

  • Table linens were our splurge and centerpieces. Our venue comes with both and they're not horrid but definitely not my style. I wanted chair covers too but found a way to incorporate the color of the chairs provided into the color scheme.

Thankfully FIL's paid for the HM or we would be honeymooning in my apartment.

  • Besides the honeymoon, everything else we're doing is a necessity in some way or another so...

I say the groom's cake.  FI doesn't know about it, I'm surprising him at the rehearsal dinner. Only 75 bucks.
  • Attire (for everyone) and shoes (for FI and I).  Our photog is quite expensive as well!

  • Definitely splurged on my dress, but it's supposed to be the most important item of clothing you'll ever buy right?
Also splurged on a bunch of lingere for the honeymoon- I didn't own ANY lingere and always go to bed in a t-shirt and PJ pants- thought I would step it up a bit for FI.
We went all out on the honeymoon too (got first class plane tickets, etc..) but it was the first thing we bought so we had some time to pay off the bills!
  • We splurged on our photographer because we aren't having a videographer and because ours is awesome! My cousin used him almost 4 years ago and I knew then I wanted him for my wedding whenever I got married (I didn't even know FI then).  My brother is getting married next year and also booked him....that's how awesome he is!

We also splurged on our honeymoon.  We are going to Hawaii.  It's always been a dream vacation for both of us and we are afraid if we don't go now we may never get to go.  We will be doing lots of excursions and exploring as well, not just relaxing.
  • uplighting! totally not necessary but I had to have it =)
  • Our splurge was the honeymoon as well. We're going to Jamaica and I've never been to a resort before so i'm pretty excited about it.
I rarely go on vacation somewhere so I figured we might as well take the opportunity to go somewhere nice.

The rest of the wedding has either been at standard price or below. Although some people seem to think some things are expensive (these are the people who haven't planned a wedding) but when I compared other places I got a better deal without sacrificing quality.

Oh wait, I thought of a splurge! We rented out what they call the 'schoolhouse' and the whole wedding party and other guests can stay there. It sleeps 14 people. That was the only unnecessary thing but well worth it and we'll have an after party when the reception is done. :)

  • honestly... we haven't really splurged on anything. in the midst of planning FI went jobless for 2 months, so we were on a BUDGET. and I mean it. we waited for the best deals and browsed around quite a bit for everything. our relatives sluprged on us by giving us the honeymoon. the honeymoon is more expensive than the whole wedding put together. and not because it is a crazy honeymoon, but because I've been crunching the numbers on everything. That day will cost us just around $1000 total, if I don't count the rings.

  • Photography and videography for sure, but they're totally worth it.
  • The big ticket items we splurged on are our DJ and Photographer, but idc. Its worth it.

Small things that I splurged on would be my shoes (that hurt, damnit!), calligraphy (she was a great price for the product, but we didn't need it), and teeth whitening =)
