Love stories

For the past month, I've totally gotten into Korean dramas.  They are good old-fashioned love stories, and they're so addictive!  (If anyone wants a recommendation, check out Boys Before Flowers on Hulu... the first episode is a little weird, but after that, I guarantee you'll be hooked!)

So this raises the question... what is your favorite love story (TV series, books, movies)?  Many love stories today aren't exactly Christian, so is there a Christian love story you have in mind?

My old roommate really got into the Korean dramas and I watched one with her - it was different, but very fun. My personal favorite love story of all time is Anne of Green Gables. It's not even so much about the love story as it is Anne's life, but I just love love love how Anne and Gilbert's relationship unfolds!

I've been in love with Robin Jones Gunn's books since I was young! Her teen series, Christy Miller, Sierra Jensen, The College Years, and Katie Weldon were some of my favorites as a teen. She has a really awesome series called the Glenbrooke series for adults. I'm actually re-reading them now.

The Redemption Series by Karen Kingsbury is also wonderful!

My absolute favorite extra-biblical love story is the "Mark of the Lion" series by Francine Rivers (she also wrote Redeeming Love).

"Voice in the Wind,"  "Echo in the Darkness,"  and "As Sure as the Dawn," take place in 70AD Jerusalem and Rome following a Christian girl from Jerusalem who has been enslaved and taken to Rome and falls in love with a gladiator.  That is a very weak synopsis, but it is an incredible story.

I think I read these, or perhaps it was something similar. Did her face get torn by lions in the arena? Maybe I'm thinking of something else, IDK.

A bit of a guilty pleasure of mine is the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oak. it's set in early America and follows a family who travels west. They've made movies loosely based on the books.

I read ALL these books! I was sad that the movies went a little off from the story, but I still like them too. I even got my parents into them and they love the movies.

The Princess by Lori Wick is my all time favorite. It's about a girl who enters and arranged marriage with a Christian prince. It's just such a sweet story. I think have read that book at least 4 times.

Yes!! I read that too. I remember that he respected her and did not sleep with her until she was ready (which was quite a while!) b/c they didn't know each other. They even had separate rooms, if I'm not mistaken. And I also remember that the day after their wedding, she was eating in the kitchen with the cooks and the Prince walked in and didn't even recognize his own wife!! Loved that book. I should read it again!

I second Robin Jones Gunn, especially the Christy Miller series.  When the Katie Weldon books came out a few years ago it felt like catching up with my old friends reading what happened after the last college years book.  When I have a bad day/week I go back and read one of them :)

I don't read fiction much anymore. It used to be all I read, but nowadays all I find myself reading is the Bible, a marriage book that H and I read together and the Duggars' new book (love them!) Interestingly enough, "love stories" was the theme of our wedding! We did bookmarks for the save-the-dates, the invitations opened like a book with a ribbon inside for the bookmark, and love stories were the table "names/numbers" It's funny because a lot of the book titles we used for the table names, I haven't even read! Haha.

My favorite love story (hands down) is The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.  I love how the husband reads the journal to his wife to help her remember their life together (she is suffering from Alzheimers).  When I watch the movie, I cry every time.

My favorite love story that is not written is my grandparents' love story.  They were married for 70 years when Grandpa died.  They got married as teenagers, Grandpa was badly wounded in WWII, they lost a daughter to leukemia and they stuck together through it all.  If I was more talented, I would write a book about them.
