NWR: Anyone fluent in Portuguese?

Hoping you ladies can help me out.  When FI proposed to me, he included a reading of a poem he wrote for me.  I would like the get the last line as a tattoo, but in Portuguese.  He is Portuguese but cannot speak it, and neither can I, so I don't want to necessarily trust Google Translate.  Can any of you help?  It's, "A promise to you to never grow apart."  TIA!

I did already, I just don't always trust it because sometimes the context can change the transaltion.

  • NO. Don't use google translate. I speak Spanish and you don't even know how bad their translations are. They aren't right, just dictionary copies. So like none of the grammar is correct. For example. Dan will run down the street in google translate might be Dan run down street. Who knows what you'll get. Don't trust it at all, especially not for a tattoo.

Maybe ask one of his relatives since it's such an important, special thing?

Exactly!!  Unfortunately, I don't think anyone in his fam really speaks it...which is kind of contradictory, but hence why I am in this predicament.  I emailed a couple people I know are fluent at work but haven't heard back yet.

  • There's someone in my office that speaks it.  He's not in yet but I'll email him and ask him lol
  • Awe, well I'm sure you can find SOMEONE. This might sound weird, but just google people and e-mail them. Professors, book writers... they won't know who you are or where you came from!?! Just explain your circumstance and I'm sure they'd love to help!

I have the word "mueveme" on my ribcage in a nice cursive. It comes from this poem which has followed with me throughout my life and has a great meaning!

  • It's the first poem on that website and the English is below it. Read it! It has an awesome meaning. :)

  • Chelsea- thank you!  I figure I'll try to take a poll of everyone I can find to make sure I land on the right words!

mbishop - going to read it now!  I have kanjis on my ribs that stand for "courage" in memory of my mom and how brave she was in her fight with cancer!  I like having things that are meaningful to me, but most people won't understand their importance unless they know/ask me or happen to be fluent in Portuguese! ha!
