Floral Sticker Shock!!

So, I met with the first florist on my list last week (Petals and Lucy).  Trish was so awesome and she seemed to be totally down with my motif.  We talked about doing spray roses, ranunculous, hydrangeas (sp?) and other pretty flowers, some greenery too.  She sent me the proposal later last week and, wow.  I had no idea flowers were so expensive.

Now, I'll admit- I had been planning on a lot of flowers.  I'll break it down for you to give you an idea:

Bridal bouquet
5 Bridesmaids bouquets
11 Men's boutoneers (groom, groomsmen, and fathers/grandfathers)
5 corsages (mothers/grandmothers)
8 bouquets for isle (see below)
20 table centerpieces
3 Vases at headtable/dessert table

So yeah- kind of a lot.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut down on having so many flowers total?  I'm thinking of doing silk flowers for the Isle (I am having hanging mason jars on shepherd's hooks with flowers in them).  Here is an example I found on etsy (the jar, not the shoe horn :)

Trish also suggested not using flower vases for every centerpiece, maybe have some candles.  Below is a pic of my concept for the centerpieces.  Ignore the blue fabric underneath, I just put that there for color.  I am actually making circular blue lace "doilie" type things for the centerpiece to sit on.  Also, the flowers in the pic are obviously silk- I just put them there because I'm doing pale pink flowers.

This Vase is green, but I am also doing clear and torquoise blue vases.  Kind of going for a vintage/antique feel.  Next to the vase are mason jars with candles and rocks in them.

I do have meetings with other florists set up, but everyone has told me that Trish's prices are reasonable.  This leads me to believe that I'm just wanting for too much.  None-the-less, I absolutely can not spend the amount on flowers that she has quoted me.

Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!!

Maybe you could just have the bridal bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres done professionally and then DIY the flowers for the tables.

Honestly, Trish's prices were about half of some of the quotes that I had gotten.  Good luck, I'm having a difficult time with cost here too

Maybe cut out the boutonniere and corsages of people not in the wedding party? We aren't getting parents and grandparents any. As PP said maybe try some DIY centerpieces.

I am using Trish and like you probably already know has been reasonable with her prices and she was the best quote! I loved meeting with her!

For the dessert and head table....what about using the maids bouquets?  I am having empty vases for each of of my maids and after the ceremony they will put their bouquets in there as a holding place but also has decoration for the cake/dessert table.  We aren't doing a head table but I will use my bouquet for our sweetheart table as the centerpiece. I got the idea off another brides website and it seemed to work for her and it has saved me money already...so why not?!?

Also if cost is important, you might have to rethink the aisle idea.  As cute and romantic as it looks, its seems like its taking alot of flowers to do.

And think about the centerpieces...for me a concern with vases is that I didn't want them to be too bulky or so in the way that it made it hard to talk to the person across the table or for them to even see.  Also not to much clutter on the table. So we are going with clear vases with flowers submerged in water.  That way its not too of a distraction...we are using 3 different heights per table and are using gerber daisies and roses.  The vases are not that big...holding about 2 stems.

Like other PP...you could only give boutineers and corsages to like the moms and fathers.  Thats what we are doing!  You know its just for the pictures!!! :)

    Anyway- good luck!

I am DIY'ing non-floral centerpieces.  That should save a nice big chunk of change.

My quote for one bridal bouquet, three bridesmaids bouquets, four boutonnieres and three corsages is right around $480 before tax and delivery.  Does this sound typical?

I'm doing the exact opposite.  LOL

I'm getting silk flowers for the bouquets and corsages and such, and doing real florals for the table center pieces.  We haven't priced any out yet though, I'm kinda scared!

    total cost $230

I plan on DIY all of my centerpieces, and pew decorations. I am ordering the flowers from fiftyflowers (or something similar), and using a couple of bud vases, and mason jars at each table. I am also going with a vintage-ish theme.

I did this for my engagement party with flowers from Trader Joes, and was shocked how easy it was to get the look I was going for, natural and simple, similar to your mock up. I plan on putting them together the Friday morning before my Saturday wedding, with the help of friends and family. I would seriously recommend going this route, it is going to save us a crazy amount of money.

This alone would save a lot, and then maybe you could just order bouquets and bouts... although I am DIY that as well :)

I am using cheap but pretty flowers for bridal partys flowers. I asked for the cheapest white flowers and then picked my three favorite. I'm using all fake flowers for decorating the ceremony area. I am doing my centerpieces myself and am only using flowers for half of them. The rest will be curly willow, cheap! Good luck. Try to use silk whenever you can and think outside of the flower box. I.E. a lantern with a candle inside is very pretty and much cheaper!

I also suffered from extreme sticker shock when I got my first flower quote for $2,700!  We didn't even have anything fancy, and our wedding is somewhat small.  Crazy.  We got another quote, and it was more like $800 for the same amount of stuff, so the first one was clearly inflated for some reason.

I haven't ordered yet, but I think we are going to DIY centerpieces, and get the bouquets, corsages, etc. from the florist.  Safeway also seems to have soem good options.

You can also order bulk flowers, or wedding flower packages, from sam's club and costco which are somewhat reaosnably priced, and have great reviews.

We did DIY flowers as well, I ordered in bulk from costco.com for centerpieces - calla lillies+ gerbera daisies, and for the gazebo, our garlands, and for guests to throw as blessings after we were married we did carnation strands - it was about 1500+ flowers, for $600!

I am ordering my flowers from either Costco or Safeway.  A friend of mine I work with will be doing my arrangements.  She does it for fun, but she has been published in Phoenix Brides (or something like that).  She has done TONS of weddings and says if you are going to DIY (or in this case, she is doing it for me) Safeway and Costco are the cheapest to order flowers in bulk.

I am ordering my flowers from Woltz florist.  She has been very helpful.  We ordered:  (forgive my spelling)

    Boquet/toss
    3 brides maids boquets
11 boteniers to include moms, dads, gparents, groom, groomsmen
    a boquet for our arch
1 flower for each of he ten shepards crroks going down the isle
2 packages of petals to toss decorate w.

I am using the boquets as head table centerpeices....

    bill was 500.00

I am adding wheat centerpeices with 3 roses wrapped around them at 21.00 each.  But I am doing only a few of these as centerpeices and then a fw floating candles as centerpeices to keep cost down.  Estimated total is about 700.00.  This includes the delivery fee.   Check them out they are very helpful.

I'm having a destination wedding and after reading this thread, I'm thinking all you ladies got a great deal! My MOH bouquet (1 dozen red roses) will cost me $110.

The best way for you to cut down on floral cost is to tell your florist what color flowers you want instead of telling them the actual flower because that's where the bulk of your cost is....for example, you asked for hydrangeas and these are cheap.
