ceremony programs--per couple of per person?

What do you all think about handing out programs--1 per couple?  obviously, if the person doesn't have a date, he/she would get one, too.  We are trying to cut costs, but I want a professional-looking program.

we only made 100 programs for originally 260 invited guests (we ended up having 160 yes's - we'll see how many of them come to the ceremony).

I definitely don't think this is a "1 per person" necessary item, 1 per couple is totally fine.

We did 100 programs for 150 guests, and had tons leftover.  So 1 per couple is definitely fine.

Mine were free from one of my work vendors so we did one per person especially since they are program fans but if we were paying for them I would have done one per couple. They insisted on one per person and since they were taking care of it who was I to judge.
