Becoming an officiant

Does anyone know the laws about having a family member or friend become an officiant for a Wayne County wedding?

I found a local Mayor that said he would be my officiant pro-bono, but I do not know him and would much prefer one of my close friends perform the ceremony.

I tried looking up the info on the Wayne County web site but it just confused me further because there seems to be conflicting info.

Has anyone gone through this before? Help!

I'd call the county clerks office. Write down the name of the person you talk to, hang out, call again and get someone else and write down their name and make sure the information matches. (I do this with a lot of companies if I get problems because then I can speak to higher authorities that I spoke to so-and-so at 10AM and she said this and at 11AM I spoke with so-and-so and he said something else)

    Maybe try this website: http://www.themonastery.org/?destination=ordination

A lot of wedding officiants (according to their bios) got ordained through them.

a friend of mine just got ordained online, in MI there are really no requirements at all. They can just go through all the steps online. Kinda crazy isn't it?!

That's what I originally thought, but I found something on a Wayne County web site that made it seem like they were much more anal retentive about it (like you could only under special circumstances have someone ordained and it would only be valid for a single day and you had to go through county officials?!?!)...hence why I was trying to find out a bit more on here.

I guess I will have to break down and actually call, I'm just loathe to do it because I'm always at work during normal business hours and I can't just be on my phone.

yeah I have the same issues with the work hours!  As far as I know they may need to register with the wayne county clerk before officiating, but that is the only restriction that i could find.
