Photography pricing info????

Ok here is my disclaimer: I sincerely apologize to the message board goddess if this question has already been asked but I do not want go through all the pages searching so I am "possibly" reposting an already asked question. That being said here is my question: I know nothing about photography, packages and pricing....can someone tell me what to expect for average pricing for a wedding day package? I'm talking about something middle of the road package, a decent amount of pictures( I actually don't even know what would be considered a decent amount of pics vs a lot of pics). What kind of pricing could I expect from a photographer who is considered expensive? Any info would be appreciated.

Found someone in Madison that seems great but the packages seem outrageous but I'm just not sure.

I'm sure this is not too helpful but photography can range from $1000-$10,000+.
To me a middle of the road price would be around $3,000 but for some people that might be a lot or too little.

ETA: I'm paying around $6,000 for full day coverage, the rights to my photos, and an amazing album

</div><div>To answer your question, a "middle of the road" package for full day coverage, albums, etc., I'd say around 2500 and up from there.  Then again though many girls find very reasonable photographers that are just starting out or leave out albums.  There are  many variables that make giving an average price point difficult.

There is no middle range...it depends on experience, style, quality and type of albums....it sounds like someone who offers an ala carte option may be what you are looking for, you build your own "package".

I'm paying around $5,000 for full day coverage, 2 parent albums, my album and and e-session.

I'm paying about $2900 for a full day of shooting, a dvd with rights to the photos, a very basic album and an engagement session. It seems like it's hard to find an established photographer who offers a package with an album for under 3 grand in NJ but that's just my experience. Someone who is just starting out would be much less though.
Also, in terms of the numbers of pictures taken, some photographers offer packages for a certain number of hours, but for a full day I'd expect somewhere around 1000 pictures to be taken.

I'd say that very basic packages start at 1,500 and the high end packages start at 2,500. Mine is 2,500. But personally I think spending over 3,000 is ridiculous.

I gotta say I was unimpressed with 90 percent of the photographers out there. I wanted more photo journalistic style without the cheezy poses. I lucked out and found this photographer through a friend, loved her work, and she was below our price point. I a m getting 9 hours, 500 pics, 200 prints, rights, 2 photographers for about 2500.

The best thing to do is research various photographers you read about hear on the Knot, and also see if any of your vendors have recommendations and then make appointments to meet with those who's style you like. While price is an important factor to consider, you should also make sure that you also like your photographer's style AND their personality. For FI and myself, it was very important that we LIKED our photographer since you are basically spending all day with them.  You should also consider if you only want the photos, or do you want to do a package and what is important to be included with your package. For us, we wanted to have the following from whatever photographer we went with: all day coverage, 2 photographers, full rights to our photos, an engagement session, an album for us, and 2 parent albums that could be customized for each set of parents (in other words, not just having a clone of our wedding album made for our parents). Meet with a few to compare prices and personality and determine who you feel the most comfortable with. Good luck!

I am paying $3300 for 10 hours of coverage, my photographer and one asst, rights to the all photos w/ DVD, a magazine of all the pics taken, an upgraded album, an engagement session, and I know I am missing something else.  We just worked with him on our engagement session on Thusday and now I can't wait to work w/ him for our wedding.   Kiss

i totally felt the same way, and i agree with Chobot, i was unimpressed with most of the photographers i looked at. we decided to go with photomuse (just google them - they are out of brooklyn but have an office in montclair as well). they are kinda pricey but i think it will be worth it. our e-session is sept 10 so if you are still looking i'd be happy to send you some photos after that. i was also impressed with shelly & keith photography in glen ridge.

I used Jason Rhee. I paid about $2000 for a full day coverage, hi-res DVD, all proofs, our album, 2 parent albums, thank you cards and a couple of large portraits. He is pretty popular around here. He may have gone up a little, as I got married in October 2010.
