St. Regis Bora Bora - best superior overwater bungalow?

We booked our honeymoon to Bora Bora in September!  So excited - we are staying in one of the superior overwater bungalow for 10 nights - does anyone have a suggestion for which one to ask for (if even possible)? Thanks!

  • I would try searching the forums on Trip Advisor and maybe posting your question there too.  I found that site extremely helpful!
  • If you search room map on Google, something will pop up. Also try Tahiti-explorer.com. I know from experience during the many times I went that requests are not guaranteed but will be noted. Definitely buy Jan Prince's Tahiti Guide for recommendations. 10 nights is a long time on one island, so be prepared with activities.

  • wow! that sounds amazing!
  • Thanks for the recs!!  Do you think it's too long to stay on Bora Bora - we really didn't want to deal with checking in and out, taking flights everywhere and losing time - just kind of wanted to veg out in one place - but if we're missing out and should go to another island as well, I am definitely interested to hear your recommendations!! :)

We are staying in Moorea first. This seems to be a pretty popular island to pair with Bora Bora.  It's about a 10 min. flight from Tahiti.  There seems to be a bit more to do in Moorea as well.

Then we are taking a 45 min flight to Bora Bora.  I don't think there's much to do in Bora Bora, and we fully plan on just relaxing.  I do agree w/ PP and think that 10 days is kind of a lot, especially when it doesn't seem like the inter-island flights are that big of a deal.
  • I definitely recommend going to another island. I would not spend more than 5-6 nights on Bora Bora. There is SO much more to do and see in French Polynesia. What island to visit depends on what you are looking for. I personally love Taha'a for relaxation and just getting away from it all, but with the luxury of a high end resort, Moorea for it's lush surroundings and activities (also easier on the pocketbook!), Huahine is great for culture, and Tikehau and Rangiroa are great for seclusion and diving! I've been to the islands several times and never stay in one place for more than 5 nights, and while I probably could stay longer than 5 nights somewhere (especially Moorea or Taha'a), I have favorites all over the country and want to explore all of them! However, I will say to save Bora Bora for last since it's your first time!

  • We looked into Moorea - but the flight options that are out there are actually very inconvenient (ie having to spend the night in Tahiti the first night because the Moorea flight doesn't leave until the next day).  We really didn't want to island hop and keep checking in/checking out during our Honeymoon - just totally want to relax.

Are there any  good restaurants in Bora Bora?  We would like to maybe explore a bit but just aren't in the mood to island hope given the short time frame.
  • If you have to spend the night in Tahiti prior to going to Moorea, you will need to do the same no matter what island you go to. Are you doing a 10 night HM? I have never been in FP for more than 10 nights (well, taken that back, I may have been for 11!) and didn't feel very rushed. Each person is different and I'm very low key and lazy, but I don't think I could do Bora Bora for 10 nights. That's just my personal opinion after 5 trips there. As for restaurants, Le Villa Mahan, Top Dive, Kaina Hut, and even Bloody Mary's are all options. That Tahiti Guide book I mentioned will have the full up-to-date listing.

  • Yes we're doing a 10 night honeymoon, but it takes two days to get there and back from NYC.  We already have to spend a night in LA before leaving for Tahiti, so we didn't want to have to keep doing that when there.

Could you tell me the name of the guidebook you recommend?  I appreciate all of your help with this - wow five times....amazing to have gone there five times, lucky!!! :)
  • It's Jan Prince's Tahiti and French Polynesia Guide. she lives on Moorea and knows the islands incredibly well.

What I was saying about the flights is that if your flight from LAX arrives after 4pm local time you won't be able to get Moorea or any other island that same day. So, you will have to spend 1 night in Tahiti upon arrival regardless. I wasn't sure if you were saying that you didn't want to pack/unpack 3 times (Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora), or if you thought that if you went to only Bora Bora, you would only have to pack/unpack once because you can head directly to Bora Bora. The only reason I could see that you could hear directly to Bora Bora and not Moorea is if the interisland flights to Moorea were already sold out (strong possibility!) Moorea actually has twp options for travel- ferry or plane- so if the later afternoon flights are sold out, you can always take the ferry over.

  • Oh interesting!  I didn't know there was a ferry - how long is the ferry ride? I would have loved to have researched that oh well!  We found only one flight to Moorea - and the timing was awful.

Our flight right now gets us into Bora Bora at 830am and then departs back to NYC at 6pm - so we really have all full days in bora bora on our travel days.
