Aisle Runner or NoT!!

Does anyone have an opinion or experience with an aisle runner? I have heard they can be disasters but I think I really want one? It will be on a concrete surface and made of a good polyester fabric?? HELP ;) Thannk!

I think runners are one of the most outdated wastes of money in all of weddingdom. They were pretty out of vogue when I got married and I'm surprised by the attempts to bring them back. They can be a tripping or slipping hazard, heeled shoes can leave holes in them, and they look sloppy if they aren't laying just right. I also recall my photographer specifically asking us to not use one since the brides dress photographers better with out one.
• Everyone knows the term,'Red Carpet Ready!' to signify the idea that the bride is ready and she looks beautiful! Celebrities 'walk the red carpet ' for the Oscars or Grammy's to signify the specialness of their entrance to the event. The same is applied to you because your wedding is an event and ALL EYES ARE UPON YOU as you walk the 'white' carpet to herald your entrance! Ushers in your wedding will be able to pull the aisle runner to the back of the church-ask them about this days before your wedding to insure the perfect look.

You are the bride, the star and your entrance deserves to be white carpet ready!!!!!!! Congratulations and cherish every moment of your walk down the aisle enhanced by the aisle runner for your entrance!!! Live the moment!!!!!!! .

• My SIL had one and it was a disaster. We kept tripping on it during pictures, it ripped before the ceremony (though no one could really tell), and the whole time after while taking pictures we had to constantly be aware of the aisle runner. It was a huge headache.
• I am also debating having an aisle runner. I think the personailized ones are really cute! But it is a lot of money to spend on something you are going to use once, unless you make your own. I'm trying to think of other ideas for aisle decor.. but it just seems like everything else (candles, rose petals etc) would require a lot of clean up.

• You can get a "mat" that is personalized (I think on oriental trading and I'm sure etsy) or do a projection that is monogram...much safer than the aisle runner. Do away with out it your budget and anyone walking down the aisle will be grateful :o)

I agree aisle runners are necessary. But, I think that guest books might actually be the most outdated waste of money.

My FMIL wanted me to get one so I did. Right before we leave the
rehearsal, we're going to roll it out and stick it to the floor with 3M strips
(like the ones you use for picture hanging) every 3-4 feet or so. Hopefully that will limit the
slipping on the smooth surface. I know before the wedding day isn't ideal,
but I'd rather get it out of the way rather than worry about it on "the big
day." I'm not someone who's going to get pissy because other people walked
on it before me. lol
• I'm not a fan of aisle runners and we aren't going to have one. If you want one and feel like spending the extra money for it, go ahead. But considering what other pp's have said, they may not be worth the hassle.

• personally, most of the aisle runners i've seen look cheap and i dont think they're worth the trouble of having. we're having tulle draped along the chairs down the aisle, accented with some flowers. if you're looking to delineate the aisle, i think it's a pretty alternative to the aisle runner.
• Don't do it. They are an unnecessary expense, people trip on them, shoes get caught and wind blows them so that they get all wrinkled and out of place. I think they're not worth the hassle and I've never seen one that I actually liked.
• My future in laws are pressuring me to have it as well but I think it is a waste of money. We aren't doing much of anything for decorations at the church because let's be honest, who really cares about the decorations at the church.. people are going to be more focused on the bride and groom at this point and will remember the reception more :)

I like the look of aisle runners, and will probably make my own (church wedding) and I was thinking that using the sticky tape down the sides will help. I'd rather do it ahead of time too instead of having someone pull it out with a crowd and have something go wrong.

I think that one of the challenges of using an aisle runner is securing it so that you don't trip and fall. On concrete it is less likely that you will poke through it but if you are planning on wearing spikey heals and are not extrememly comfortable ...I wouldn't risk it. Why take a chance. Hope this helps. http://www.colonyflorist.net
• The monogram aisle runners are quite elegant and if you are having a theme wedding such as gold/silver it can be stunning! Your florists or wedding coordinator who delivers the runner will know exactly how to position it to avoid any 'slips' in the fabric. I agree about rose petals! They are a nice touch , but not for the runner as you begin your entrance.

I wouldn't skip on the importance of the aisle runner to usher you into the church, alcove, etc because it's part of being the bride! Cut other areas of expenditures if need be, but keep that WOW factor in the design! Congratulations and enjoy!!
