Getting in Shape

anyone lose 2 much weight & not fit in their dress?

I tried on my dress tonight...

I knew it would be big, but its HUGE!

it didn't give me that WOW factor I had when I first bought it.... in SEPTEMBER.

i really didn't plan on losing weight, until I decided to do weight watchers. So I bought the size that they told me to buy..

And now im worried that they won't be able to alter it enough.

It has major beading on the bodest & it's from David's Bridal . .

i'm so worried girls :(

Re: anyone lose 2 much weight & not fit in their dress?

  • My dress got altered down a total of 5 inches (that's a lot...it's more than 2 sizes).  I had beading, ruching, lots of details and it was no issue, except for a little gapping around the bust.

  • I had the same problem. I ended up getting a new dress. I got the first dress very cheap and it was going to be a pretty penny for alterations. So I went for a new dress since I was not 100% in love with the first dress. But I am sure your dress can be made to fit. Congrats on the loss!

  • I'm a little nervous about mine. It fit perfectly when it came in, and they told me I could gain or lose 10 lbs and be fine. That was 13 lbs ago. I planned on losing weight, but not nearly as many inches as I have. I have confidence that they'll be able to alter it. Mine has rouching, but it's also a corset back. I'm not too worried, just a bit nervous. =/
  • Most places should be able to still alter it.  I have also heard that David's will sometimes do exchanges in situations like that (I have never purchased through them so I do not know for sure).

  • Thanks!

In my case... my dress is discontinued! So I don't think I'll be able to do an exchange & I really do love my dress..

  • I have the same fear as you!  When I tried my dress on the size 6 floor model fit really well but the consultant warned me that those often stretch out.  There was also a tiny bit of a cut in right below my ribcage.  So, I ordered up a size.  When it came in it was HUGE.  I tried it on the other day and it really is really really big.  On the one hand, I'm happy I don't need to worry about losing weight to fit in my dress, on the other hand I'm kind of worried that it's going to be way too big now that I've gotten back to being able to run outside (I don't do well on ice.  I fall a lot.)

Let me know what they tell you.  I got mine from David's and they told me it would be totally doable.  The style is Oleg Cassini CW365, so it's got some hardcore lace and beading going on.

I think we should be ok.  I'm sure we're not the first people in the world to order up a bit in size "to make sure it fits" or something of that nature.  And congrats on your weight loss!
  • THANKS!!!

And good job with you too...

I think my dress is easily 3 sizes too big. . . . so yeaaah...

Let's hope! And I'll keep everyone updated

  • I would call a local tailor for alterations, they are typically a lot cheaper, and more willing, to do alterations. Better that the dress is too big than too small!

I got Oleg cwg377 and also ordered a size up. It is huge on me, I didn't think the difference would be that much. Like you said, we can't be the first people ever in this situation. OP, I would ask around your local board for seamstress recomendations and go consult with someone you trust. Good luck!
  • I have the same problem. Since I bought my dress, I've lost 32lbs and I have no idea how it will be when I get it on June 6th. I hope D&B can exchange the size or even the style if it is too big. My biggets problem is that I will be getting my dress just one week from our travel to the state where we will get married...sighs...hopefully everything will work out, otherwise I will be a " dress less" bride!!!!
  • Hey ladies!
I happen to be a DB consultant. Go to alterations. I know at my store, I consider my girls altering geniuses. And definitely feel free to shop around for other seamstresses. Just keep in mind that once you take it somewhere else, we can't handle the dress. :P

I will let you guys know that I actually had a girl in last week who went someplace else bc they cost less and she ended up getting a less than satisfactory work. Very less than satisfactory. I wanted to cry for her. DB guarantees- I loveee that. I've seen too many disasters from other places.

And for me, I'm done spending money. So when I try on my dress tomorrow for the last time until the big day (June 11th) and it's still too big, I'm going on a Twinkie and Hoho diet haha.

But again Mariemoten, give your consultant a call. We're here to help!! I'm sure they can figure somehing out for you.

  • And also! Great job on the weight loss. That's a lot of work! Haha I didn't mean my Twinkie and Hoho diet comment as influence. Good job lady! =]
  • No haven't tried on my dress yet. I tried this one dress on the other day it fit my body except my boobs were squished in like sardines in a can.
